The 6550's dial back that sterile KT88 high end, fatten up the mids, and keep the big bottom end that the KT88's had, but I think it might be a little tighter now too.

My amp still has all the stock chinese 12ax7 pre's, with the exception of a Sovtek LPS in the phase inverter. I'm keeping an eye on the other thread here for pre-amp ideas, but goddam, does this amp sound great now!!

It's just balls out rock and roll!!!

Anybody who has a Twin Jet and hasn't tried 6550's,

Glad to read it m'man... Ya, they're keen bottles for the TJ!!

I'm just working with some 6550s and KT77s and a whack of different preamps to get my Rev.2 tuned to my ears.

What brand are y'all using. I'm going to do this to my twin jet
 
The Tubestore recommended Tung sol, so I went with that. No experience with the EHX's, but they're both made by New Sensor, so you should be good either way.
Would love to try the =C=, but at $400 a quad, I'll stick with the Tung Sols
