I went down an ai vocal rabbit hole the other night and did this quick cover of a song from braddah iz as a test... I got to say this ai stuff might get me into trouble lol. I basically do my recordings like I normally do, did 3 vocal takes and ran those vocal wav files thru the ai and bam.. instant Hetfield. Enjoy!

Damn!

What AI are you using? Can I pull off Robert Mason from The End Machine or the second lynch mob album? If so, I’m going to start singing again, (run for cover)

So the one I used was called RVC-GUI https://github.com/Tiger14n/RVC-GUI/releases/

And the video I watched was this

The guy was explaining how to rip a vocal track from a song to get a wav file of just the vocals and then how to use the software to use an ai model. I guess thats how people are doing cover songs and just swapping the vocals, like Hetfield singing Eye of the tiger lol

So what I did was actually record/sing a vocal track in the style of Het with the yeah yeahs and stuff then run that wav thru the same ai app and get those and add it to Reaper and process it like normal vocals. Trippy shit man. That youtube vid has a link to a discord server that has ai voice models.. there is all kinds of shit in there.

Now I want to learn how to make my own voice model, shit is interesting and not toooo hard for this old man to follow.. yet

Man, that’s awesome. Thank you for the video and great job.

Seems silly, but nobody’s making money on the music I hear in my head. I may as well make it sound the way that I hear it!

I’m going to give this a shot??

Dude thats kinda where im at. I'm all about making up shit, vocal melodies, lyrics all that shit but I can't stand how my voice sounds lol... always wish I had a Het thing going on. Now I can mess around with all kinds of shit.

I kind of love this tech. Obviously it could be used for all kinds of nefarious purposes, but it really does open up so many options for people who love music and want to add "vocals" their list of virtual instruments they can use to experiment with.

Like how cool would it be to really deep dive into recording your own "what if I wrote the music for X band during their Y era" album?

Yup. I'm planning on even experimenting with female voice models too. I grabbed a Miley Cyrus model and ran it thru a recording my sister did for me a few years ago... such a trip. As long as the original voice track is in tune you can literally replace it with whatever model you can find or make.

Or you can just use to make covers like this which is funny and cool as shit

I want more! Your songs with these vocals! Go back to some of your older videos/riffage and do this shit! Don't make me hunt you down and make you do this.

There are so many goofy songs James could sing.

Friday (by Rebecca Black)
500 Miles
I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)
Africa
Baby Shark
Raspberry Beret
Don't Stop Me Now
Shake It Off

Bob Rock said when James came to him wanting to be able to sing better during the Black album recording, he put on a Chris Isaak CD and asked how to sing like that. So I think we need AI James singing Baby Did a Bad, Bad Thing.

Who would be your ‘killer’ background singer’s collection for your chorus?

This is insane, you could have Freddie Mercury and Michael Jackson backing up Homer Simpson.

James Hadfield singing backgrounds for Dave Mustaine

Dokken backing up Robert Mason

DLR backing up the red rocker

Or a bridge with all of the above mixed in atmos

Hell, you could transition and become the next singer in Vixen!

Fun stuff!

AI composers, lyricists, arrangers, musicians, vocalists, mixing and mastering. The entire process, start to finish, may soon be done by AI. And performed by avatars of aging/dead musicians; and eventually anime characters that will make Hatsune Miku look dated.

Humans just describe what music/style/band they want, and maybe what instruments to use; maybe not even that.

I'm sure someone is working on a large language model trained on the top 10 songs going back months or years; AI can then generate new songs based on patterns of what's popular... many genres are formulaic, with some having simple (pop) or more complex (prog) formulae

That is scary and super cool. What are you using to do that?

You know how it's easy to tell Hetfield didn't really sing on these? Because the drummer is keeping his own time.
