and wishing I had a Gibson Les Paul. I used to own a custom shop Les Paul but found myself using my BC Rich. I think if you're gonna own some guitars two axes everyone should have is a nice Strat and a nice LP. Unfortunately the only way I could afford one right now is if I sold my 1997 Taylor 914C and that shit ain't happening. Anyways just to torture myself I looked on the web for nice LPs. Looks at the tops on these beauties! http://www.wildwoodguitars.com/electric ... _les_paul/

Those prices are retarded, I dont care how good they sound or play.....$4000-$5500 for a fucking machine made guitar???? no thanks

I miss the old days when you could pick up a used Custom for $500

If I could play an LP like Doug does I'd want one too.

Love that Strat. :)

It's the best sounding strat you'll ever hear. Seriously... It also looks totally badass being relic'ed and all.

Your bandmate has a great Les Paul "from the crotch" type pose, classic

I know how I sound through an LP, so I don't want one. :D

It's just that I cannot play the darned things. They feel SO much different than the type of guitars I've been playing for, well, forever.

I'm gonna go against the grain here, but Doug at his most bad-assed point played Jackson Soloists and a strat head San Dimas Charvel. This was in Lion and early Bad Moon Rising and back then he was just freaking killer. He has really kind of simplified his playing to be almost exclusively pentatonic and blues based. Back then he had more of a scalar approach and his playing just had a little more flavor to it. He's still killer and killed on the Dio stuff but seeing him live with Lion in clubs was just sick!

I must hear some of this old Doug. I only learned of Doug through his work with Dio.

I grew up playing Les Pauls. The first time I played a San Dimas Charvel it felt like someone had removed a 100lb weight from my shoulders. Things I could barely pull off on my own guitar flew off the guitar neck on a guitar I had never even played before.

Since then I've owned at least 20 other Les Pauls and I just cannot jive with them. I love the way they look and velcro-fly's picture is boner inducing (and so is the one of his guitars :) ) But to be honest, I HATE the way LP's play and feel. I don't need to find a "good one" either. I've owned real 68's and reissues and played at least 300 LP's in my life.

In my hands, there are no good Les Pauls.

From all the videos I've seen, Doug Aldrich seems pretty consistent whether he's playing a strat, superstrat, Les Paul, etc. :)

Hey Curt, i gotta agree with ya on this! Im a huge fan of Doug's playing and i think around the time of the Lion album Dangerous Attraction, he was maybe at his best technique-wise! The solos to Hard and Heavy from that album is a great examples of his style back then.. he used so many cool sounding licks and really varied them too, going from wide stretched minor licks to more scaler examples!!!

I think Doug started getting bluesier around about the time he spent during Hurricane and Bad Moon Rising!

Considering you're a far better guitarist than I am, this makes me feel pretty good about my position on LP's. Three thumbs up!
