Anyone else deal with this bs?
Since i was 17 i had tendinitis so bad it was dissabling. Years later it miraculously got better. Every now and then it resurfaces itself though, and guitar playing is a nightmare..
Lately carpal tunnel has been an issue and the battle continues. I wish i could practice my guitar everyday or even a few times a week, but i havent been able to since i was young. I mean i can usually PLAY without too much pain, but PRACTICING is a no go. Ive rested my hand completely for about 5 days now and still no improvement. Anyone here have similar issues? Anything work for you? Surgery? Specific supplements that actually worked?

That sucks, man. The only thing I can suggest is eating a LOT of healthy food. This can help you more in the long run then anything else. I can't practice long myself because of some health problems. Playing more than 45mins is impossible for me when standing. If I'm sitting 25min max & I'm done.

I hear you man. I really sucks because im very disciplined and know that i could be so much better if i didnt have pain.

My fingers on my left hand hurt so bad I can hardly stand it. It hurts to even make a fist :( I used to take celebrex which helped alot until I lost my health benefits...that stuff is too expensive for me now so I just take advil :aww:

You're in a whole other league in playing compared to me man...I really feel for you dude

also, try stretching before playing. Not just 30 seconds of cracking knuckles, but REALLY stretching for a good 15 mins or so

damn, and I thought arthritus that I'm coming upon with age was a bitch.

Sorry about that as it definitely sucks. A couple suggestions to consider, first make sure your technique is not causing the problem. Learn to play with very relaxed wrists and hands, if you don't already ...(edit: watching your youtube clip your hands seem relaxed while playing).....also 5 days is not enough rest for tendonitis or carpal tunnel to heal, sorry to say but it might take a longer break then that

Secondly consider checking out acupuncture, I know several musicians whom have had good results with it. Ask around and find someone whom deals with carpal tunnel and tendonitis, pretty common I believe since the advent of computers.

good luck

Basic silly question, do you stretch your hands and arms before you play? There's probably a dozen different stretching exercises you can use that are all really preventative measures but will also help relieve symptoms, google them if you can't find them let me know and I'll try and locate some. There's also a video of Petrucci that shows the way he warms up before playing.

I have heard acupuncture does wonders as well and supposedly some yoga exercises too.

There's quite a few other things to examine, whether or not you are using to thin of a neck I heard can make problems with your hands/wrists, if you have poor technique play your guitar far to low or something like that. What string gauges are you using?

There are a LOT of things to think about...

I have this Really BAD from Weightlifting, and Computer Work.... It's a nightmare. A lot of times I can't play...

WHAT REALLY HELPS IS TAKE 100MG OF VITAMIN B COMPLEX! BUT NO MORE THAN 100MG OR IT WILL DAMAGE YOUR NERVES. YOU COULD TAKE SOME ANTI INFLAMATORY LIKE ASPIRIN ALSO BUT THE B COMPLEX IS MOST IMPORTANT.

*YOU WILL SEE IT WORKS*

Well i did recently switch from 8's to 9's. But something tells me thats not the issue. I play my guitar high and learned to play with a light touch years ago. I know the correct form from classical guitar. I will work more on my diet, stretching and hopefully prayer etc. It works wonders.

I had to have ganglion cysts in both of my wrists drained and shots of cortisone in both. They are slowly coming back so I'm probably gonna just have the surgery.
Dumb question, but do you stretch your ams, wrists, fingers in between playing sessions? It helps immensely.

Huh wow.. I heard that same thing a while ago. But yea the balance is crucial i heard. Too much is bad and too little is useless. Any certain brand etc that you reccomend?

I'm still a young gun but I've been told by a a lot of older players to really stretch before you play.. something I always disregarded and didn't think much of, but I think I'll start doing it now..

here's a vid I found

I've got an inflammation problem and I've been taking Zyflamend, check it out. It's all natural. On top of that, I've been taking even more ginger and turmeric(which are already in Zyflamend).
Probably works about 1/3 to 1/2 as good as prescription NSAIDS, but obviously won't tear up your liver and give you stomach ulcers. You have to take it regularly for about a month before it really starts working.

Same here. Mine would pop/go away once in a while until 4 years ago a HUGE (doctor had his jaw on the floor haha) one formed and never left. Had the surgery. Haven't had problems again.

Rob,

I'd advice you checking on all these meds & see what they have in them that would supposedly help you. After that find natural foods that have this stuff in them & eat those. You don't wanna start having other health problems taking these meds. I have had my docs jaw drop after I went with this technique, he took me off of meds completely.

I have the same problem,my fingers go numb, sometimes i think i play to hard,or grip to hard.
Either way,it hurts, and i get so pissed off, running thru scales and can't finish because i have
to let my left hand hang for a few minutes. However i find when i'm standing up and playing,or
at a gig i don't feel it.
I think part of the problem is i use my hands at work, using a lathe,or mill, grinders etc.My hands
get alot of use and abuse.

Any of the big names bro... Solgar, Twin Labs, etc... Go to the Health Food Store.

B6 is what helps but it's no good to take it alone... It must be in balance with the other B's That and no more than 100mg.

I FIND TWIN LABS LIQUID WORKS BEST...

Try it.. I promise It will HELP!!

Well I agree with Vit B and stretching, I do that as well.
When I quit eating ice cream and most chocolate(Dark raw 2/3 coco min. sugar is great for a number of things) that seems to help too. Some people also cut out cheese, but I live on it almost.
Omega 3 is good for a pile of stuff, unless you eat tones of fish this maybe an option.
Coenzyme Q10 is also good for a number of things including your brain and nerves.
The thing to do IMO is give different stuff a trial(4 to 6 weeks), and keep doing what helps.
I don't have what you have, but I do have 2 types of auto immune diseases(RA & OA)
