Holy crap a MIM Fender is now $1000, never thought I would see that. A good friend of mine's kid has been saving for a MIA Strat and you should have seen his face when I told him that by Feb he was going to be a further 25% short, felt bad for the kid since he has been shoveling his ass off the past 3 weeks to make money.

guess they're jumping on the gibson bandwagon. at these pricepoints i think in the future i'll just go custom.

Made in Mexico by Mexicans instead of Made in California by Mexicans? ;)

You know what I am talking about :)

Prices are getting crazy, I cant even justify buying my favorite basswood Ibanez stuff anymore

I'm glad I'm done with Fender.

I like the two that I have, but I would rather save up a little more and just get a higher end guitar with their latest price increase happening.

Yeah I told him I would be on the lookout but he would like to have a new one and I cant fault the kid for wanting to work for it.

He is only 14 years old and he may be one of those kids that just gets it, plays non stop and is into 60s-70s rock. He is playing in a school talent show this year and uncle scott will make sure he has a Marshall stack behind him

Can't he find somewhere that'll hold a guitar on lay away?

I like Strats and wished that the Yngwie I played was better built, to me not worth the cost new. One just went for $890 in great condition but had a mod to put a flipped trem on it

I guess it was over 5 years ago, but I bought an awesome Mexican Fender Strat brand new for $300. Hard to believe these guitars are going for $1k now. BTW, this particular guitar has an awesome tone ... and I would put it up against some top of the line Custom Shops tonally speaking. I use it whenever I'm recording and need to capture a real single coil Strat sound. So they were a great value ...

Only the road worn MIM strats are around $1000, unless I misunderstood something.

I wish G&L's guitars had more similar necks to fenders, they are close, but a little too different from what I like.

Well, like Carl said, there are killer MIM Standards to still be had at between $300-$400. I just bought one a couple months back that is one of the best Strats I've ever played. TONS of mojo. Does anyone know if the price hike is on MIM and Jackson/Charvel too?

Or you can just get a non road worn one for $400.
+1. I don't see what the big deal is.

the kid wants a USA strat, I did explain that there were great sounding MIM stuff out there if he looks but he wants to same as his idols.

Very cool of you about the Marshall, but make sure you explain to him that drowning out your band in a really wet sounding auditorium isn't good either ;) You should explain to him how there's nothing wrong with buying used and that likely many of his idols have bought used too. You can definitely get a used MIA strat for way less. But I agree prices are getting insane on new stuff too

Ya, The two plants are about a mile away from each other. 1 in Mexico, 1 in the USA.

There is some snot kid in his school that has gear thrown at him from his parents so I told him not to worry, I had the gear part covered that night :D

I guess he is like we were when we were young, standing there and looking at those strats hoping to have one some day and old man common sense is not too effective right now :D

We'll be easy on the first few rows ;)
