Dean Bel Aire in Silverburst. I still have it actually, but the electonics have been pulled out for years.

1976 yairi alvarez. Took it when my dad stopped playing it. Love that guitar. Awesome guitar to learn on.

Started on a Fender acoustic--first electric was a B.C. Rich NJ Bich fixed bridge. Played the hell out of that axe. Was stolen out of my car in 1995 along with an ART SGX2000 Express and another acoustic.

Cool thread!

My first was a lefty Strat copy made in China back around 1991 or so. I thought it was the best thing ever with my little 10w practice amp lol. After that I upgraded to an Ibanez RG of some description and put the strat copy away. Never saw it again until I moved a few years ago. Decided to pull it apart to see if it was worth putting a new neck on and using as my strat style guitar. Body is plywood       Back in the cupboard it goes. It is a POS but I will keep if for sentimental reasons.

Me with my first guitar, a Harmony Les Paul copy straight out of the JC Penney Catalog.

It came with the amp you see there, a sweet Stradolin 535.

Such a poser I was. . . . still am.

Yahama acoustic in the late 70s. Peavey T-60 in 1981.

I got a Hondo Les Paul copy for xmas when I was 13 or 14. Not even the good one, it only had one pickup. :aww:

It did the job so I guess I won't complain.

Little old Spanish acoustic with nilon strings. I learned my first song (Seek and destroy) on it. Sold it for $5 (came up $1.25 on top!!). Few years ago was looking for the guy who I sold it to, but found out he died in a bike crash...

Early 80's Matsumoku made Vantage Avenger AV-3. Strat type guitar w/ a lightweight alder body, maple/maple neck, vintage size frets, 6-screw trem bridge, and three uninspiring pickups.

I'd taught myself to play on my sisters acoustic learning songs by ear. I picked the Vantage out because it was comfortable to play. My parents took notice and bought that guitar as a Christmas gift at the end of 1980, mid way through my freshman year in high school.

Before that school year ended I'd had the bridge position routed for a humbucker and installed a Seymour Duncan JB. For the five years that followed many guitars came and went around that Vantage. It became what electric guitar sounded like to me and it played effortlessly. It remained as my primary guitar until the summer of 1986 and I only gave it up because the frets were played out. Rather than refret it I gave the guitar to a close friend who still plays it today (though it has seen other changes over the years it still sounds amazing.

I thought knowing the guitars specs would make it easy to find a Fender Strat as a starting point for a replacement. I was wrong. I've been through plenty of Strats and similar guitars over the years trying to recapture the sound of that guitar. At the end of 2004 I talked with Tommy at USA Custom Guitars about helping me put together a guitar that would make for a worthy replacement. By the end of January, 2005 I had finished assembly and it worked. Played acoustically side by side with that old Vantage the similarity in tone was striking! The new USACG Strat differs in some ways of course but the base tone is spot on. I won't be letting this one go.

Mine was an old Cort les paul bolt on I bought from a pawn shop for like 30 bucks. It was in 85 or so. It must have been a 70s model cause it was greatly used she played very well. I also bought my first amp a little gorrila, I thought I was so cool back then.

I had a succession of shitty no-name acoustics, starting when I was 1 or 2 years old. Around 14 y.o. I got my 1st electric...a black Peavey Falcon.

1962 Gibson SG Jr - identical to the one in this picture.
Unfortunately, I was a dumb ass and traded it in on a Gibson Q3000 Custom Shop guitar. Not my smartest move...

I had a couple super el cheapo acoustics in elementary school, I never learned to play, I was more into sports.

When I was in high school, my parents bought me a really nice Alverez acoustic for Christmas, they let me take it back to Wonderland Music and exchange it. I got a red hardtail Hondo II Explorer, dual hums and maple fretboard with matching headstock. I also got a Yamaha 20-25 watt solid state amp....I was hooked from day one. I don't have the guitar anymore but wish I did, it found its way into the fireplace one drunken new years eve :)

Here's a picture of what it looked like :)

Mine was an Electra Cherry Burst Les Paul copy!! Bought after a summer of lawn mowing for $329 back in '77. Had to have a guitar that looked like Ace's. I knew I was destined to be in KISS one day!! They would have to become a 5 member band or get rid of Paul....that was going to be up to them.....Anyway,that never panned out! I sold that guitar for $250 in '80 and the douche bag I sold it to contacted me 30 years later to see if I would be interested in buying my first guitar back!!!! I said, "absolutely!!!!" I told asked how much (I was willing to go for $500 and double what he payed). He said' "how about 2K?!" WTF!!!!! If he is doing today what I told him to do, he is making what is anatomically impossible....possible!

Cort Effector and Ibanez X series :D
