I wouldn't mind getting my Hafler Triple Giant back I sold on here a couple years ago, but I know it's not a holy grail 80s preamp. Anyways, where are all the fairly rare, really nice super hot Marshall style preamps at? I can't even remember these days the ones I coveted several years ago.

I'm sure there's a number of us here that have them and are alive and well. Not sure if these are all 80s or not,but Ive owned a bogner/ hafler triple giant as well as matchless gp2.Get some good tubes in these and theyre killer. In my collection and currently using:
Badcat preamp ( one off)
Bogner Fish
Soldano x88r
CAE 3+ se
Vht gp3
Marshall jmp1
Mesa triaxis
Mesa Quad preamp

I've always wanted to try a vht gp3. But you want to check out the Russian preamp builder his name start with an M. 80s preamp heaven. He makes a version of just about every pre listed above. Save for the digitally controlled ones.

The ones I still have are:
Soldano X99
ADA MP1
Rockman XPR
Egnater w/multiple modules (this is a re-issue)

sold my Fish(s)
Always thought I'd have a JMP1, never got it....

I sold my Triple G when I went back to old school heads. That was a killer sounding preamp.

I've had 2 ADA MP-1 preamps back in those days.
Sold them both to the same guy who was still living in the eighties.

I just sold my MP1 and Myasnikov Superlead SLO clone. I think what I'm pretty much looking for is a Morin preamp but I doubt I'll find one, or maybe one of the Metaltronix preamps Zakk used in his early days.

Whoa there lil fella that's crazy talk. These things aren't for just any string bender on the street?

Morin preamps are pretty much cream of the crop. The only preamp that's come close is a Soldano X88R modded with a channel 3 bright switch (fixes the slow attack).

CAE 3+ is kind of underwhelming for high gain. Langner DCP-1 sounds great based on Michael Nielsen's recent video—mids are in the right place.

My Langner DCP-1 is still racked?

I just got one myself... Can’t wait to get into it and put it through some tests.

Holy shit you ain't kidding!

I just found this pic which I found drool-worthy.

I know the dog who owned it all. Look close and you'll see the ultra rare...4x12 so few made it's unknown how many survived.

Are those EQ + compressor on top?

And do you mean 'survived the flood'? Just recently read about that.

The Great flood happened twice! Todd made those tube parametric EQs and that was the final key to THE tone! The gear is out there but it's rare. The flood took the rest...

Okay, this is my list of owned pre-amps that are all long gone now. I don't miss the refrigerator & the stupid weight AT ALL.

The end result is I got the most joy hands down sound wise using humbuckers out of the Kasha RockMod 2.
The clean channel blew but the dirt channels were stellar.

These were all mated to a VHT Blackface 2150 into a Marshall cab with either V30s or greenbacks.
My wet sound was provided by an Eventide H8000a.

Mesa Quad Pre amp - Plenty of knobs but not too many different sounds & dirt lacked punch focus
Soldano X88 - Nah, just too Soldano for me but not as good as a SLO either
Soldano X99 - Flat thinnish sound but plenty of programming options obviously. Watching the knobs spin was a blast.
Egnator ie4 Red Face - way too bright & thin
VHT GP3 - Great on paper but a dog sound wise & lacked gain. Flat & lifeless best describes it.
Kasha Rockmod 2
Gallien Kruger 100MPL - Lifeson's pre for a time
Mesa Triaxis - without the dynamic voice at 3.5 for everything it was a dog. LD2 Red was noisy JUNK.

This is what a Kasha Rockmod 2 can sound like here.

Today, a good modern head with a decent reverb etc ....gets me a far better gainer punchy ballsy result today.

Sorry but that was funny. And yes, Ted would say that to me too.
