So while I had the chassis out of my head shell...

... I decided that I wanted my TriAmp to glow all pretty and stuff too. I added an LED strip inside the top of the head shell. Doesn't seem to cause any interference or noise. What do you think?

cool, how did you power the strip? battery or other.

At the moment, I have a small chord that runs out the back of the amp to a power strip. I'm going to see if the standby switch is draw the 12VDC to run it's light that I need to power the LED strip. If so, I'm just going to jump it to the standby light and it will all come on at the same time.

Standard TGP response......"agh, that's a lot of knobs". :D

Standard TGP Answer: Well, sometimes a lot of tone requires a lot of knobs. ;)

Not bad, but what would be cooler is an edge lit piece of new plexi with the H&K logo in it... or your name, or whatever. Edge lit is killer.

That would look cool on a stage

My thoughts exactly. Can't wait to get it on stage.

Bob, yes, the edge lit would definately look a lot cooler than what I rigged up. However, I'm far to lazy to go through the hassle of doing it. lol! :)

it looks good in the pic... but can you see the strip while just looking at it straight on. that might change my opinion.

If there was one amp that deserved to be internally lit, it's the Triamp MK1. All those tubes and that blue plexi-glass make it look killer :D

Holy crap! I didnt realize those had so many preamp tubes

btw, the amp looks cool

Yes, there are a lot of tubes. And she's due for a tube change. I'm looking at around $250 to retube the amp. Ouch!

i did something simillar, powered off of the amplifier. i wanted something subtle

Where did you tap the power from?

depends on the diodes you use, or the lamp you use.

theres a max current draw of the diode or lamp and a max voltage for the diode/amp.

once you know these, then there is a voltage source which you need to limit to get it within spec which the bulb/diode will pull (current) and draw (voltage)

it really is dependent on the lighting you use - the type of diode you use, and how many diodes you use.

look at the relay and footswitch rectified section of the amplifier for a voltage source thats close to what you need.

the standby switch will not have 12VDC....... the standby switch would be in the vicinity of around your B+ and screen voltages. you would not have a light that would last long.

Cool. I'll check the footswitch circuitboard. lol... Yeah, I din't suppose that these little LED lights would last long at 500VDC.

I used to love the look of glowing amps (H&K, Engl, Cobra)

Now I think they look cheesy and kinda gay :scared:

Looks great, love the blue. I've been curious about these, How would you characterize the tone, hard rock, metal, etc? Just wondering how far these go. They look killer.
