And what do you use for a power amp or monitors?

I am thinking a SS power amp if the Kemper models the characteristics of the tube power section?

I have had one for like 6 months. I use 5 Studio monitors, 2 x KRK RP8, 2x KRK RP5, 1x BlueSky 12" Sub. Running like 500+ clean watts. It is quite loud and punchy, for home use though.

A lot of people say the Matrix power amps are great with the Kemper since they are designed to be completely flat.

Hmm.. Looking into Kemper, so I will give Matrix a look as well..

And yes it does model the power section. In fact it works better this way. Still people do use tube power amps and the Kemper has a function to make this work better (turns off the cab emulation).

I have one and for FRFR I run it into an RCF floor wedge and an EV PA. Also I have a Line 6 Spider Valve 1x12 that I keep around for anyone to play through that doesn't bring over an amp.... I plan trying out just using the power section and speaker of that just for shits and grins.

Yes it models the tube power section.

I guess a powered monitor would be the easiest thing to do..

Put it like this to approach anything close to a 4x12 you are going to need lots of large speakers pushing air.

I run to FOH with the main outs on the Kemper and then run it through a cheap peavey classic 50/50 power amp to either a 2x12 or 4x12 cab for my stage monitor. I would like to get a Matrix power amp soon. I never thought I would but, I love the Kemper!

Steve Fryette recently posted a series of videos talking about SS power amps vs. tube power amps that's pretty detailed and informative. This is the vid he did with the kemper.

I've used a couple of different setups with mine...

1) at home for recording and self practice, I use a pair of KRK VXT6s and a KRK10s sub. works great.

2) for band rehearsals I go through a mixer and a pair of QSC HPR122is. This is also what I tweak for my live sound direct to PA.

3) sometimes at band rehearsals i also use VHT 2/90/2 poweramp and a 4x12 cab. Or a guitar head fx loop return and 4x12 cab. This defeats a lot of the purpose of the Kemper - but it can be done. You can defeat the cab emulations so it can be used as a preamp only, you just get a ton of coloration from the power amp and cab.

4) live I use it with a QSC K8 on the floor, aimed at my head. ;) works great. I also have two outputs going to the mixer/FOH that the soundguy sets levels with.

The only thing that worries me about the LX-2 is that it is tube based so you are going to get power tube saturation at some point, ie, non-linear. Kind of defeats the power tube emulation/profiling. Or maybe not, hard to say.

[edit]LX-2 sounds like it just has more bass and treble.. which is less 'boxy'.

If I can convince myself to let go of a vintage guitar and posssibly an amp head, I will soon...
