Sold My Mark V this is why (lengthy)

Best thing I ever did was sell my mark V. Every time I plugged into it it sounded like a different amp. I can't stand tweaking, wish I had time for that but i don't. I want simple, plug and play since these days I'm lucky if I get an hour a day to play

I'm just gonna leave this here. This tiny amp has killed me wanting other amps, except for a full size Mrak V. Although, I have heard from a dude that owned both at the same time that I don't want the full size...but I still want one haha.

I'm considering picking up a Fryette Power Station to run this fucker at massive volume levels. Guess I'll have to get that figured out.

It even beat out my beloved 5150 212 combo as my favorite amp to date.

I love this thing!!

sweet! Petrucci demo if it was crushing - especially with a 412

His demo is what sold me on the amp. The tones he was getting were absolute ridiculous. I bought one 2 weeks after seeing Petruccis demo, and I'm not even a big DT fan or anything. I am, however, a HUGE Metallica fan, and this thing gets Metallica tones super easily. I like that. I like that a fucking LOT!!

That little fucker is cool looking little fucker! It even has cabinet emulation, which is cool as fuck! The crunch tones are outrageous!

Shut-down the cabinet emulation, and plug-in one these...

Sorry it did not work out for you. Different strokes, that's why there a mind boggling number of amps on the market today.
You should not knock it though just because it didn't work for you (doesn't live up to the hype?) Because clearly it works for many people, pros and amateurs alike. Maybe somebody should tell Petrucci or LOG or the many others that tour the world with them that it's really only an overhyped bedroom amp.

I agree someone needs to tell Petrucci his live tone could be better, the reason I say its an overpriced bedroom amp is because once its turned you have to change everything for it to sound good in a rehearsal space unmic'd and Lamb of God are so awesome the could play through Marshall MG heads and cabs and they would still kick ass.

Our ears don't hear things the same at loud volume you noob.

I've really just been micing it. I also have some of my own IRs that I made that sound great with it. This was miced with my Heil PR30.

I bought the Mark V back in 2009 when it first came out. Sold it 2 months later. For pure metal playing I feel the Mark IIC+, III, and the IV all sound better than the V. However the Mark V is more versatile because it has a decent middle crunch channel. Still, channel 3 on the Mark V lacks balls that the other Mark series amps have.

I have found some Mark V's sounded better than others when I was able to try out several over the years when GC carried them.

If you use a Tube Screamer and/or an EQ pedal with a good recto and tighten it up I feel it owns the V for heavy modern stuff.

Completely agree. Mark V is a great amp but not for me. I also agree mostly with the original post describing the mark v to a recto as well.

I've gone back and forth between recto and mark v and a boosted recto is the best for me. Same tone every time.

THanks!

I quit my band a couple months ago, and I really have no need for a big amp at home. I have a 2.5 year old, and my wife works as a server at night, so she sleeps a lot during the day, and the kid takes naps constantly. I wanted something to record without having to crank the shit out of it to make it sound awesome. This thing works absolutely FLAWLESSLY for this situation.

Luckily, I am starting a new job in about a week, and the place is located near the only Mesa dealer in Orlando, so I will be able to check out the full size before making a decision on buying it. Don't need it now, but I like to have a plan for the future...especially since my OLD band is talking about a little reunion dealie.

But yeah...until I am playing in a band situation again, this is absolutely the perfect amp for me.

The Mark IIC+ setting was why I purchased a Mark V... To my surprise, the Mark V lacks the "Deep Pull" option of a real Mark IIC+ amplifier! WTF?

Mesa told me just yesterday; "The key to getting those Mark IIC+ (and other) tones when using the Triaxis, is the "Deep" mode option on the 2:90 power amp..." :scared: THEN WHY THE F--K DIDN'T YOU INCLUDE IT ON THE MARK V AMP? I didn't say that, but that's what I was thinking, of course. I want to own a Mark V amplifier, but I won't until they get the Mark IIC+ setting right - if ever.

That's the first thing I noticed, along with no pull "Fat" option for the MK IV. One of the reasons I finally gave up my Mark IV was because as someone else said here, it sounded like a different amp every time I fired it up. Endless tweaking, so I knew getting a Mark V would probably be even worse for tone dummy like me who can't get his shit dialed in

I'm hoping the Triaxis and the 2:90 will get me those Mark IIC+ tones that I crave. I'm sick of dicking-around with amps and pedals... I'm going back to rack preamps, rack effects, a kick-ass stereo power amp, and two 1x12 cabinets. I'll keep one good half-stack, just because it looks cool. I mean it this time... Really, I do!

Receiving Satellite info... :student:

Starting at 5:34, I'm not liking what I'm hearing. It sounds like one of those black Boss Heavy Metal pedals. Maybe it's my speakers?

Well, if it ain't working for you, it's better that you let it go.

The Mark V is a great amp, but it shines more in its versatility than its high-gain tone compared to the previous Mark series. For tone, the Mark IV crushes it, and the Mark III absolutely crushes both.

As someone that has the Rectos and Marks, they're awesome for separate reasons. Yes, They're both hi-gain amps, but the Recto is very "3D sounding" and is a "full" sounding amp, while the Mark is a fast tracking, drier, amp that gets as much gain as anything out there.

Diffetrnt strokes for different folks I guess, but they work great for me, and I haven't had the desire to get anything since.

Yeah...I really want one of those Mark V Mini amps and a 1x12. I am ampless, have been for almost 3 years.

That Petrucci video sounds so good.
