sd-1?Never played any rack gear, but the SLO30 is a rock beast and metal phucking machine with a boost.
Duncan 805. The Fortin ts9 is great with it also.sd-1?
Agreed. The Fortin is great with my '89 SLO100 as well. I like the TS808 Fortin even more for it's extra oomph and aggressionDuncan 805. The Fortin ts9 is great with it also.
That's a killer rig you got there, I'm still looking for the right Pwr amp for my new x88 ir, can't wait to play it with my VP4 in 4 CMMine really sounds good. I use it for very specific tones (80s metal) but can have endless tones within. I do not have any pedals up front but do keep a Roland SDE3000 between the preamp and amp. I also use it as a dB boost which is nice as it can change on the fly for solos. There was a rack mounted head maybe 2-3 months ago? I posted it here and I recall it being about 4500 bucks. Sold quick. The rack stuff is uncommon so people want it. Had I not had my Caswell and SLO poweramp I would have considered offering on the rack head recently maybe but I’m gassing other shit now. The 77 version I cannot speak to.
In summary: I can’t imagine ever letting this combo go.. it’s really really nice for me
Well I don't see getting rid of this one anytime soon either. But the X88-IR is intriguing. I'm curious as to how they will compare, since Mike Soldano pointed out the X99 was the evolution of the X88r.Mine really sounds good. I'll probably go with the new KSR PA100 amp, that thing looks crazy cool all in Black with some cool features and comes with a foot switch and MidiI don’t think you need to crazy on the power for the amp unless you really can turn up 100 plus watts a side. Something commonly found, reasonable power and priced well are Mesa 50/50 power amps. I had one I used with my Mesa Quad and it sounded great. Only sold it because I sold the Quad and couldn’t come up with a scenario to justify keeping something I could sell for $800. Fryette is good if you have extra room in the budget. Possibly used Marshall 50/50 (EL34’s) or 9100 (6L6 version).
What about the 90w Fryette, I need to chug it live once in a while with the local band situation, or just 50?I don’t think you need to crazy on the power for the amp unless you really can turn up 100 plus watts a side. You’ll never use or need that much, even in a rehearsal space with a band. Different tapers on volume pots can sometimes give the illusions on more or less power in a rated amp but the watts are the watts. I used 100 watt heads for years but always knew a 50 watt head would be fine. I was just used to 100’s so that’s what I wanted for band work. But this was ‘93-‘06 and stages have become so much more restrictive on volume and antagonist towards big tube amps since then. What about the 90w Fryette, I need to chug it live once in a while with the local band situation, or just 50?
Oh that makes a lot of sense, I hear the word (Headroom) thrown out there with regard to 100w heads but they're selling amps lol, Ok I just might saveYou’ll never use or need that much, even in a rehearsal space with a band.
