Nah, still has a softness to the chords. I've played Avengers a fair bit over the years and loud or not so loud they sound the way they sound. I'll take my own experience over a youtube vid. Especially when I don't hear the amp in the vid improving that much.
A Japanese Boss SD-1 into my SLO on THE CRUNCH CHANNEL is easily as clear and open as my old late 70's JMP 2203 was being boosted as well. I love that SLO Crunch channel.
The Lead channel is just pure insanity.

Love the SLO crunch channel as well. I got the SLO crunch channel to sound pretty much like my 77 2204 when I had both.
I think anyone would be hard pressed to tell the difference in a live setting or on a recording in a full band mix.
Have never played an Avenger, but often see them selling used around $1100. That't about $1500 less than a used SLO. Gotta be a reason for that.
Yep, that's my the thinking as well and why I asked the question in the OP. It's why it's hard to pull the trigger on an Avenger, because it's still a nice bit of coin, mostly I see them around $1500-$1800.
