It's like buying a Mercedes....if you have to ask, then it's probably too much for you. Thinking of buying one are you?

On a side note... don't even consider an SLO unless you can play it at healthy volumes. It is not a bedroom/apt amp imho. My 2 cents.

My experience, as well.

As far as "worth it" goes, that's entirely in the hands and ears of the player; same as any other amp.

Nevermind. Talk to Brad about that.

I know a guy that can loan you a few bucks if you really want one....

Having just sold one, and owning about 10 since '92 or so, I think it has been surpased by other amps. It's like a Mesa 2C+. If you need that exact tone, you need one. My Landry sounded better to me every time, which is why the SLO and XTC are gone.

I would be interested in buying a mint used one,or trade for one.

An old bandmate of mine back when in Vancouver had one, I played it a bunch and we a/b'd a bunch with my xtc classic. It always sounded consistent and it cuts nicely. But ultimately, while I really like it for leads, the rhythm tone isn't quite my cup of tea vs. my bogner or similar. That said, the same guy had a decatone before the SLO and while it was more versatile I think the SLO smoked it for that tone. If you like that tone, only the SLO will do it IMO. So... great amp, just not quite my taste. The guy has since sold it btw.

It seems the SLO issue comes up monthly and usually comes down to someone questioning the price and value versus - something else. Nothing else really sounds like an SLO. It's response and tone is unmistakeable. It's a gigging amp and built for the road. If articulation and clarity and an amp keeping its composure the louder you play it, then it is one for you to consider. Where other amps start falling to pieces with uncontrollable gain at stage volume, the SLO holds together and gets tighter as you crank it. It is not my favorite tone by any means, for my playing style, however it is one of the finest quality amps you will ever purchase.

That said, I wouldn't recommend anybody selling everything to buy an SLO, until you play it first. It is one of those amps that will either work for you or against you. There's no in between.

Steve

Nothing cuts-through like an SLO100. Worth every penny IMO. I played Cornford's for three years, but they just don't have that vocal upper-mid thing that I love so much - so they had to go. :salute:

I actually like the way a Peavey Backstage 30 sits in the mix. ;)

You could ask the same question about anything. Yes it's worth it. No it's not. Both are true. But with questions like this you would think it's $7k. $3K -$4k isn't off the charts. Many, many, amps in that range - and most without the pedigree the SLO has.

My lucky stars were aligned properly ~2 years ago when I PMed a forum member (after HS graduation) and snagged the SLO100 for $1850 shipped.

Yes, it happens and like the VH4, it's not going anywhere. :)

Said it before and I'll say it here. We A/B'ed a stock SLO against a stock Jet City JCA100H and came to the conclusion that anyone who pays for an SLO in this day and age is a fool. You're buying the name, that's it.

I'd rather buy a product made in America.
 same here
