Soldano X88R Preamp - $4999 shipped
Vintage Soldano X88R Preamplifier from 1989 in very good condition. This is the holy grail of Soldano rack preamps and was found in many studio racks of the pros. These original X88R preamps were hand-built by Michael Soldano in his Hollywood shop using only the finest components available (i.e. DeYoung power transformer, Mallory caps, Clarostat pots, etc.) and came with a lifetime warranty.
Michael Soldano estimated these would currently cost over $5,000 to produce with the same parts and craftmanship. Not to be confused with the cost-cutting reissue made by Boutique Amp Design.
The circuit is based off of the highly coveted Soldano SLO100. It has three entirely separate preamps (Clean, Crunch, and Overdrive) which offer tones ranging from Fender cleans to singing distortion. Channel switching is noise free and accessible via three 1/4" jacks located on the back panel.
I've personally compared this preamp to the SP77 and X99 and found it to have the most similar tone and feel to original SLO heads, which is no wonder since it was built with the same painstaking techniques and military quality components.
All functions work well with the exception of the ungrounded output, which isn't an issue for normal operation. This would be a simple fix for a competent tech.
This preamp will be packed with the utmost care in a double wall shipping box.
