Hi guys,

I'm soon at the end of saving money for an Einstein combo  But, with the Hagen just coming, and the love I have for the VH4, I am thinking about saving a little more, and why not get one of these two heads... but I also need to buy a cab.

Coming from the modelisation world, I don't have a proper amp, or a proper cab, just a Tech 21 Power Engine 60 with a Celestion G12K100 (just like the Einstein) inside. I'm thinking of modding it so that I can use it as a cab for the head until I have funds to buy a proper Diezel cab... what do you think about that ? Will the head still be a beast this way, with a 1*12 opened cab, or will I just spoil it ?

I'm also thinking about buying an inexpensive cab, but I'm not sure it'll be really better, it could be better with just my lil' 1*12...

Thanks !

Congrats! I know how it feels. I had to save up for my VH4 working at King Soopers making $7.79, while paying every month for my car my insurances my bills and rent haha.

I played my VH4, when I got it, through a 1x12 until I got my 4x12 and it was not pretty. The amp, I believe if this is the correct term, wasn't allowed to breath.

Now the VH4 sounds killer through a 2x12, but for me a 4x12 took my heart haha. I went with a VHT Fatbottom 4x12 loaded with P50e's. I found it used for $700.00 at the guitar suck center ( purely by coincidence too )... Normally I want to say they are around $1,200.00 new. It was not used at all, though; the speakers were not even broken in. So the kid who sold it to them probably thought it sounded a little stiff and maybe spikey and didn't give it a chance. Now that the speakers are broken in, it sounds soooo nice! It was cool because I was either thinking of a Mesa cab a Diezel cab or the VHT and it just so happened the day before I was supposed to receive my VH4, I decided to pop into guitar center to see what cabs they had and to my luck it was just sitting there. I put it on hold and payed it off over the next couple of months. Now I am satisfied.

So yeah, save up for a 4x12 or a 2x12. If you ask me, the VH4 is a beast so let her scream. She won't even barely be able to talk through a 1x12.

I DON'T actually know this for sure, but people told me that it can maybe mess up the output transformer if you run it through a 1x12.
Don't take my word on that exactly... I only played it a few times through the 1x12, it sounded so bad to me that I couldn't play it much.... Considering the first thing I played it through was that VHT 4x12 when I tested it out.

sorry if I just kind of ramble on.... I do that a lot haha. :D

Why not buy a used Engl 212 pro. They are easy to find and easy to resell when you have the money for a diezel. I use my engl 212 on my einstein and it's perfect for me. I'm not sure about your budget but in holland used engl 212 are going for 350-400euro's. Uses a Diezel VH4/Hagen on a 1x12 open back sounds like a very big compromise...

Thanks guys.

OK, so it's better to get directly a good cab with the head, my temporary solution is not so good... Let's save for a few more months...

I did it the other way around: Bought a 4x12 cab first and played my old Marshall through it (not a head, just a cheap combo) but at least I had the bigger sound
Then started to save again until I got a good deal on a used Herbert.

Just a small update a few months later : a Diezel 2x12 FL V30 is on its way, I'm glad I can enter the family ! Now, let's way for it... and for the matching amp ;)

Congrats on the Diezel gear!..Some of the best there is.Im gonna put a post up on G.Classifiieds bout this, but shortly,I will be moving 2 unloaded diezel 2x12 vintage cabs.

FL 2x12  I use one loaded w/ G12-65's into a 100 watt Einstein. Welcom to the family :emofag: :grim:

And here it is :

It's ridiculously huge and heavy (look at my 1x12 behind !), but I can assure it sounds exactly like it's build

I could only test it at low to modereate volume this morning (the neighbour's baby woke me up crying, I got my revenge :gethim: ), the difference is incredible with my former G12K100 based PE 60. Now, let's broke those V30 !

For the next month it'll be unfortunately low volume only, how much time do you think I need to break the speakers ?
