Some advice from those who've owned both Marks and a SLO?

My SLO is as tight as any of my high gain amps. Perfectly chuggy.

Modding the loop to work with all pedals etc is easy and take 15 minutes.
No extra tubes or anything, it's not a incredibly hard mod and can. D done by any competent tech.


Here is what mine sounds like: (Master Volume was BARELY opened up and it was still loud!)

I know it's not cranked up, but man that sounds freaking good. One of the best SLO demos on Youtube to be honest.

I much prefer his C++ vid. A much more liquid feel. If this is the "best" SLO tone, they're not for me personally. I see why people like it though.

I totally agree. I thought the c++ and wizards are Reza's best sounding videos! The slo vid still sounds great and I think is a very good representation of how the amp sounds and what it can do. I never had a problem getting the slo to be tight or chuggy, but just felt other amps did that stuff quite a bit better than the slo does

Both amps have something special. Mesa Mark beats the SLO in the tight metal rhythm department IMO. The SLO does feel looser, but a good boost can fix that if you want to.

Honestly, you have to play the SLO in person to really understand the praise it gets. 3D, HiFi but not in a bad way..just sounds so huge and full with such clarity. Love my C+ but SLO deserves a spot right up with it and the Wizards, great Marshalls etc. Doesn't need a boost but a transparent one will give another dimension to it.

The Slo I had wasnt really tight in the lows, I totaly understand why people say that because there are tighter amps out there. If you are looking for modern metal or thrash the mark series amp would do it better but to be honest I find the mark III and IV to be a bit boxy , especially in a live situation they sound a bit small compared to other amps.. The Slo def sounds bigger and is great for anything up to modern rock.

With that being said I have a JP2C+ now and although I have not tried an original 2C+ I like the JP more than the Mark III and IV I had. If you want Mark series tone I would go with the JP version especially if you play in a live situation, the switching options and loop are very good.

To add a twist to this I had an Avenger a while back that sounded killer ! It was like a tighter /darker/more modern sounding SLO. I should have never sold that amp
