Isn't it about time he lost the 1970's Burt Reynolds sunglasses.

But I'm still trying to see what's the big deal about this video.. Sounds like any other Yngwie video. I thought the best phrasing he ever did was on Leviathan off of Fire And Ice.

That last bit he let's things breath a tad bit more, great feel.

Yeah old Alcatrazz he is off the hook on fire.

That opening is nuts.

his steeler/alcatrazz years and first rising force tour was bombski. arrogant rock 'tude and masterful command of the fretboard.

his technique still kinda seems there, with a bit more slop around the edges, and i think lynch and eddie have it in them too

it's just a matter if they have the desire to work hard enough to practice to the point where they can flow cleanly and effortlessly as before, and realize it may never be as fiery as when they were kids.

it must be hard when there are so many distractions that weren't there when they were young. it sounds like they aren't desperate to be the best anymore, like when they had to be, or else starve or have to get a real job.

hunger and being labelled a failure is a great motivator!

Pat,

I love ya and would cut you a blank check to build me a rig with no questions asked I trust you so much but grouping Yngwie with Lynch and ESPECIALLY Ed is nuts when discussing lost chops.

Come on Pat.

Yup. Amazing shit, but the same shit since day one. I always enjoy it though... Can't sit through a whole show though because of the high level of repetition because every song has so much soloing...

Steve

Yngwie is one of my guitar idols and one that made me want to play better, but

I agree, his songwriting nowadays is absolute crap its all soloing with absolutely no melody or structure like in the old days, complete repetition of everything he has done but in a bad way, with no feel like he used to have (Some say he didn't, I felt he did)

YJM should enjoy life instead of bringing out signature gear and horrible albums to raise cash...

I know he overplays by some people's standards, but I love this one:

Soldier Without Faith. Far Beyond The Sun, Brothers, Icarus Suite, Marching Out, Since You've Been Gone.
Just a few examples of the amazing phrasing Yngwie is capable of.
I always laugh when I read people saying things like Yngwie just plays the same thing over and over. Pure ignorance.
Yngwie has played some of the most amazing and emotional things ever recorded. If someone doesn't think so, that's fine. Blanket, ignorant statements are blanket ignorant statements.
I've heard people say BB King sucks too. Go figure.

Have played some Yngwie stuff through the years and do think this: Heard some people say that Yngwie sounds difficult but is actually quite easy to play: That is just completely bullshit. He plays so damn accurate. Yes you can play through Far beyond the sun but can you actually play it like Malmsteen?
If you can you are a good guitar player. But it`S definitely as far from easy as it gets imho.

it's all relative my good fellow!

i don't think yngwie fell as hard from top form, but again after his car wreck he was reduced to zero and fought his way back to 90% ability

i just never heard the same mastery and freshness after that.
but comparatively yngwie was always way more of a scale technician, but eddie and george made more memorable melodies with fewer notes.

great examples of yngwie..my faves too. but those moments when he was soooo clean and appropriately confident and creating new ideas are seemingly all in the past.

I love the way he plays on the intro to this one. He's holding back beautifully.

He is the original.....and the master.

I'll never forget the first time I saw him in Steeler in the early 80's at the Pomona Valley Auditorium!

Talk about going back to the woodshed!

My favs are still his first three solo CD's and the stuff he did in Alcatraz

Yngwie is killer - but I prefer the stuff with Alcatrazz. All that old live footage of them is just killer - tone and playing.

The guy has absolutely mastered guitar. I wouldn't be able to attain his greatness even if I played the rest of my life.

Never forget the time I saw him on the Rising Force tour in '83 or '84? Unreal stage presence and total domination of the guitar. Definite icon.

Yngwie 83'-96' for my taste. The best I've heard him post trilogy was in the Inspriation Tour with Tommy Aldridge on drums. With the right drummer Yngwie can actually lock in better and phrase well.. and on that tour which i saw him twice on, it was noteworthy. the album with Cozy Powell was good too. Melodic. Although I thought the Concerto CD/DVD was a bold effort that showed his compositon skills at a higher level and you have to respect that. If Yngwie were to take the Uli approach for solo's and actually work out his solo's instead of his improvising approach, I bet there would be something special given his talent. I wouldnt put my money on it though, he's still trying to be Paganini. He doesnt care anymore obviously, Ferraris and Rolex's seem to be more his passion these days. There is still something to be said about watching him perform live vs. youtube clips. Its a whole different spectrum and what makes the experience unique/respectful is that nobody on this planet that i know of can execute and have complete command on a strat through old cranked up Marshalls like YJM and play with all that conviction. Pure attitude .
