just thought it would be fun to share some music!

Ghost
signed to Metal Blade Records for the USA
Really cool throwback 70s vibe metal band. "For fans of 70s metal, Mercyful Fate and Satan"!

Scale The Summit
signed to Prosthetic Records
ok, these guys are getting a lot of attention recently, so they may be well known, but they are awesome. instrumental band comprised of 2 guitars, bassist and drummer. all of them are in their early 20s and they are pretty much awesome. very tasteful shred/proggy thing going on. CHECK IT!

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Grandpas- ... 3462179497
Grandpa's Cough Medicine
unsigned
Bluegrass/country band from Florida. I don't usually get into this type of music but these guys are badass. Their banjo player is pretty righteous!

https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Algor ... 0516035482
The Algorithm
unsigned
France based one man project. Thing Techno/Trance/Dubstep meets Periphery or Meshuggah. Pretty awesome if you are into these genres...really annoying if you aren't lol. I love it though.

Outrun The Sunlight
unsigned
Two man project from Michigan. Artsy concept based modern metal. They have been getting some recognition lately, so don't be surprised if you see them blow up soon!

https://www.facebook.com/thisismonuments
Monuments
signed to Basick Records
Lots of hype behind this project. Features some members of prominent UK based djent bands (fellsilent for example). So, for a quick run down- Fell silent was a pioneering band when the Meshuggah sound starting going melodic. Good times ended and the band split. One guitarist, Acle Kahney, goes on to be in Tesseract who has just BLOWN UP recently (and for good reason, they are amazing). Other guitarist, John Browne, goes on to be in Monuments (and recently filled in for Jake Bowen on Periphery's most recently completed US tour). I believe the two bands may have other members from Fellsilent but I'm not 100% sure.
Anyway, that's the back story. They have released demos and gigged, but an album has yet to materialize. They recently lost both their singers, so cross your fingers they don't call it quits.

and finally:

Chimp Spanner
signed to Basick Records
Amazing amaaaazing talent out of the UK known as Chimp Spanner. used to be a one man project but has recently become a touring band project. He has a proggy djent sound with great lead chops and an amazing knack for writing QUALITY compositions.

ok, well that's all I've got for this post, if there's interest I may be willing to do this semi regularly. I enjoy talking music/bands almost more than I enjoy talking gear! :D

Hope you found something new and interesting to listen to. Feel free to share some bands in there too! but please stick with the theme of "relatively unknown". Joe Bonamassa, for example, is fairly well known. ;)

and finally, please keep it clean. If you don't like something, that's cool. No need to be a dick.

Good call on chimp spanner. Add Karnivool, Textures, Keith Merrow and Animals as Leaders to the list as well.

I figured those guys were all relatively known....
but aw shucks, I'll do it.

https://www.facebook.com/karnivool
Karnivool
signed to Sony Music
Prog Rock/Metal band from Down Under. AMAZING musicians front to back. Their vocalist, not only sounds great and writes great vocal lines to keep the music interesting, NAILS it live. look up any live Karnivool vid and I'm pretty much certain his performance will be flawless compared to the record.

https://www.facebook.com/textures
Textures
signed to Nuclear Blast
Metal project from The Netherlands. Hasn't had a very stable line up but they specialize in....you guessed it- TEXTURES :)
Their music is filled with textural twists and turns. Very Meshuggah influenced. In my opinion, while still being metal, it's great music to chill to. Excellent guitarists as well.

https://www.facebook.com/animalsasleaders
Animals As Leaders
signed to Prosthetic Records
Tosin Abasi recorded a solo record after his original band, Reflux (who Evan Brewer played in, he's the new bassist for The Faceless and is also releasing a solo album through Sumerian Records soon.), dissolved. Misha "Bulb" Mansoor recorded and helped to write/program the record. Few years later and now he's put together a full band featuring Javier Reyes on second guitar and Navene Koperweis (ex- Animosity and has the side project with Jon Davvy from JFAC; Fleshwrought) on drums. This is the upper echelon of the single man Djent turned to band Djent project. Tosin is, in my mind, this generation's Vai/Satriani/Petrucci/etc.

I'm going to pass on doing a write up on Keith Merrow...I've done enough one man Djenty/Metal projects. If you are interested in more bands in this genre you should no problem finding some.

I really dig Scale the Summit, glad to see someone else around here likes them as well.

No maybe's.... Traced in Air was the best thing I heard the year it was released. Absolutely love it.

This is a really good idea for a thread!

My favorite "relatively unknown band" is Opus Dai

Some of these make me feel like I'm back on ss.org lol

Good choices

great post, love discovering newer stuff, here's some bands old/newer that are pretty interesting

Moving Mountains

The singer (I think there's two) from Monuments is also in Sixth, or was. I saw Monuments, Tesseract and Periphery live in February, best gig ever.

yeah I think Neema was in a few bands prior to Monuments, unfortunately he's no longer with them :(

wow that's a gig I would have loved to catch! good stuff!

I agree just not sure how " unknown they really are"

these guys have some fantastic stuff, killer release from last year, odd times, and one of the best head banging moments/progression from around the 3 minute mark
