Some vintage Vai

I was the first in my Group of Music
Heads, to breath the word Steve Vai!!
Back in the early 80's, Blackmore, Eddie, Schenker
Yngwie, Randy, Jake, Lynch were Ruling the Scene..
I went to see a Zappa show with my Father in the
early 80's and out walked this Skinny, Lankey,
Italian Kid carrying an old beat up Stratocaster.
Frank called him his Stunt Guitarist and Steve
just BLEW my Doors off that night!! They did a
Tune called Stevie's Spanking and Steve & Frank
Traded off Solo's for a while...I was Floored!!
I knew he was going to be a Legend, that Night,
it was Obvious. Then he Joins Alcatrazz, after Yngwie
and plays Jack Butler in Crossroads...I had a New
Guitar hero that nobody has ever heard of.

almost nobody agrees with me on this, but most of the time I like Steve under the constraints of a band leader like DLR or Coverdale better than by himself. His solo stuff is so out there that I can only take a song or two before I check out. What a freak of nature when it comes to talent, tho, just a great player.

He's talented and very driven. It's no surprise he can play his ass off

+1 on this for me too. To obscure on his own.

+1 again. There are moments I love of his solo stuff, but mostly it's the DLR / Coverdale music that I like. I guess I just don't have much interest in his instrumental music.. Having said that "Get the Hell Outta Here" is an awesome song..

My two favorite Vai works are his stuff with DLR and Alien Love Secrets. When I saw him on tour we asked him if he planned on doing more stuff like ALS and he said no. Needless to say, I was disappointed. He said he threw that out there for his rock fans and wanted to get into more orchestrated stuff, which he has. I love Vai, but it is no wonder I haven't dug much that he has done since then. I hope he gets back to that some day.

Yep, same here. I loved the DLR years and Whitesnake stint. Passion and warfare was awesome as was the Alien album. The rest is so so with the occasional masterpiece here and there.

I wish for an ALS type album too.

:aww:
