I had an Edwards that way. Beautiful and all of the specs on paper said it should be stellar. The notes just had no ass behind them and it sounded lifeless.

I almost want to gather a few of those guitars and take them to a luthier and ask him why they suck

This is one of the reasons I think everyone needs one good les paul.

For whatever reason, whatever their other faults as a company, by some miracle of the cosmos Gibson puts out the fewest of these types of guitars. I've only encountered a couple. No matter what other QC faults it has, it won't sound "sterile."

Listen. You aren't wrong. My last les paul was a studio. And it earned its name. It recorded better than any guitar i ever tried
