I've written quite a lot in the past, but it would be considered "soft" music on this site. Some of it is on YT -- It's choral, orchestra, etc. I need to write something for guitars again.

@Smash and @japetus heres another idea im workin on, kind of some mercyful fate, ozzy, and glam vibes with some wankery

That's sick. Could really hear the solo Ozzy vibes with the rhythm, maybe some Lane too with the very fast descending sixtuplets (motif?) but ascending horizontally. Cool cool

Crap DanTravis, you got a very nice crunchy guitar tone. That's an ENGL with no boosts?

Nah, that's quad tracked kemper profiles: a particular Rev F recto my homie has that sounds amazing hard panned R+L, and @dead-pan 's Friedman Jake E Lee profiles hard panned L+R a little bit louder than the rev F, both were ran into Wall of Sound with the NOS V30 cab for the rectos and the British 75 cab for the JEL profiles

I use the ENGL artist for my punk band, not really my metal stuff as I prefer more "vintagey" metal tones and the Artist is a bit modern for that kind of stuff. Here's a song from my punk band that is 100% engl

Sounds a little like Metalucifer

I love metalucifer, so I'm taking that as a W :rawk:

I appreciate the vote of confidence! I was just dinking around =)

That's so funny, that's literally what that part of the solo is :hys:

I feel so called out

I have gigantic hands and doing gigantic stretches in runs is one of my main "moves" - but I have to reverse engineer shit so it isn't too blatant of a ripoff. Yes, that is a descending shawn lane lick that I turned into an ascending run (although nowhere near as clean obviously)

Wow, I could never get a real Recto to sound anything close to that tone. I'll always be a tube amp guy, but that kemper tone is very good.

Me either :hys:

I have a horrible time with rectos IRL, but everyone says they're great so I am constantly working with them trying to make it work for me

We have chugoffs, neo soul, noodling, etc.. But let us do a thread where we write a song from scratch and post it. No rules.

Admittedly this is more to motivate me to do something rather than take a nap, but let's see what you got.
So our choices are taken a nap or write a song? Hmm…

This is a tune I just wrote and recorded.
The singer is a good friend of mine, he sings out and plays live all the time, mostly country music. He does some charity work at a home for disabled young adults. One of the kids there wrote some lyrics for his girlfriend (who is also at the home) and gave them to the singer to write a song out of them. So the singer came over to my house and we wrote this.

The kid wanted an 80's type power ballad. So we kept it simple and wrote it in 1 day, then I recorded everything and he came back over and we did the vocals. I think it came out pretty good and catchy. Once we were done, we took it to the home for the disabled and played it for them. They were so happy.

Sounds great man! The vocals are mixed really well with the music which is always tough to balance out depending on the vocalist

A little tune Just for fun...

That's sick. I was clapping after the arpeggio sections too. The attack, progression and bass counterpoint reminds me of Steve Morse t the 2:50 bit. Cool cool

Haha I didn't mean it as a call out/rip off, meant it as a compliment and a recognition where it might have come from. Personally when some people smell my heroes' influence I feel a bit honored and relieved as it seems like I didn't spend hours of my life trying to transcribe their playing only for it to not be absorbed into my general playing. It sounded pretty clean to me with that pick attack as his tone is usually dark, rounded and compressed; hell even his shred god contemporaries then and now were in awe and find him inimitable.. only Roy Marchbank comes to mind tech wise.
Now that reminds me of my genetic inadequacy, I wish I had a bigger peni pair of hands as some licks they do with just stretching whereas I have to tap to reach lol.
Meanwhile 7 year olds shred neoclassical on a full scale guitar and Django rips on 2 fingers

Nah I didn't take offense man were good - I'm just stoked you recognized where the lick came from. I'm not a huge Shawn lane guy or anything but he was obviously a monster and that is 100% one of his licks, reworked to fit into the composition

We can only play the cards were dealt, you know? And I have giant hands so I try to lean into it where it's possible - and Shawn lane is a font of ideas for big stretches and dramatic sounding intervals in licks

This is cool as hell, man. Takes me on a ride. I got an Alan Parsons vibe, into a Judas Priest vibe, then into a neoclassical adventure.

I got asked to join a hardcore band so I've been writing some material but it's completely out of my wheelhouse. I've been told to dumb down my melodic death metal riffs. The things I'm thinking up are cheesey, but I think most hardcore is just cheesey anyway. I might clean up these recordings and post them.
