Sounds like an Orange... but not.

I love my Orange Rockerverb 100, but sometimes, the mids prove to be too powerful, even when they're scooped. Can someone recommend me an amp that has a similar voicing to an Orange, but has less pronounced mids with the same tonal saturation in a hi-gain format?

Heard the Bogner Goldfinger described as exactly this.

Slightly off topic, but I've noticed the same problem with my RV50... Decent sounding amp at home levels... but the minute I get it into a band mix I start hating it with a passion because all I can hear are these atrocious high mids...

mesa Electra Dyne totally reminded me of a rockerverb meets a recto....really cool amp!

My rockerverb 100 never had any issues like this...it was one of those "set it and forget it" amps. One of the best amps I've ever owned...

Have you tried swapping out some preamp tubes? That could be the culprit...

Have you tried a different cabinet with the head? What cab are you using now?

Oh and a Thunderverb will probably also fix the issue. But still my bet is on a Budda SD80.

Speaker choice is stupid important :) If you like the overall amp, try a different speaker :)

1) That bogner Goldfinger sounds pretty sweet, I don't have the cash for one now, but it does sound cool.

2) I'm using an EVH 4x12 cab It has EVH speakers, but I've heard they're really similar to a G12T75.

3) I haven't tried swapping out the preamp tubes. I would have no clue where to start.

4) ...And I love my orange, I really do, but I'll try to get it's voicing similar to a JCM800 for my 80's stuff and the mids are just too present. That's the only thing I'd like to find. For everything else, the amp makes sweet, sweet love to my ears.

5) So, I'm thinking about looking at a Egnater Renagade and other amps, but really haven't started looking yet.

Greg can answer about the EVH cab because he owns one, but I would bet that if the speakers are T75 based (even though I thought they were rumored to be more Greenback based) that the speakers would be half the problem. The treble spike of T75 based speakers as you turn them up to stage volume is supposed to be ear splitting.

Swap out the EL34's for 6L6's...instant mid range drop. You will have to re-bias it though

Maybe that's my problem. I've been wanting to get a 2x12 cab for a while, maybe now is the time. I guess I have to decide on speakers.

Actually the RV100 has a self biasing switch on the back of the amp. It will accept EL34's, 6L6's, 6CA7's,KT88's, 6550's just by flipping a little switch. :)

Nope...you will still have to re-bais it. I had a Rockerverb 100 and did it myself.
