So he'll do favors for you, but to people on eBay who might be "n00bs" he'll let them get whatever he sells them "if they're stupid enough to not know the difference already"? I'd consider that a double standard. Treating you well doesn't automatically excuse him when he does something wrong to someone else.

That's the thing about having a good reputation: you have to treat people fairly all the time.

As for the Caparison being worth the money he's asking...that's for the buyer to decide...when he's a well-informed buyer. If you were selling something, would you even take a chance that someone might get upset over your not explaining something about the condition of the item? I'm betting you wouldn't.

Was a highly customised instrument (although not by Mark, its prior owner Peter Joseph) and I wasnt aware how 'broken in' the instrument was and on that basis honestly I think I overpaid a bit, but I dont care because Mark was a top bloke to deal with and I love the instrument the way it is.

Mark sold you a guitar that was modified--had its paint job redone--he knew it, and didn't tell you...you found out later, feel you overpaid for it because of the condition of the guitar not being disclosed, and you're defending him still?

The first Caparison I bought was a custom from Pete that he had refinished himself.

Mostly since the phrase 'broken in' was in quotations like that (as in, it wasn't broken in but it was modified).

Oh no, I certainly knew. Thats why I bought it, I loved the paint job. I just wasnt aware that the guitar was as 'worn in' as it was, definately looks as though its been toured a bit, which from what I know it has. Which is ok with me, regardless its how the instrument plays, not how it looks which is most important to me.
I know Mark was out to seek a little profit from selling it, which is ok, i've done the same with instruments. I wanted that particular guitar and I was willing to pay, and i'm glad I have it. I most certainly have nothing bad to say about dealing with him at all.

Oh, I'm sorry for the presumption. I thought when you used quotation marks it meant that you were being sarcastic. You were using them for emphasis on those words...which I didn't expect since there are other ways to do that.
