I've been back and forth between the 100 lb. 412 cab and an oversized 212 cab....half the weight. While the 212 sounds great, it obviously lacks some oomph for lack of a better word. I was thinking if a smaller 412 with neo creambacks would be worth trying. BTW a Friedman Runt 50 is the amp I'm using. I'm thinking both would be very similar in weight.

A 4x12 is always going to sound better, imho. Question is really if you’re going to be gigging a lot and loading it in and out. I’d go 2x12 for that, no question. But if want the best sound, grab the 4x12.

I'm not going with a traditional 412....I was going to use neodymium celestion creambacks and the cabinet will be 26 1/2 x 26 1/2 .So as far as weight, both would be under 60 lbs.

I’ve not tried Neo Creambacks, but in general for both pickups and speakers, neodymium magnets to me don’t have as good tone as ceramic or Alnico. They’re very intriguing on paper because of the light weight and being super strong, but imo just bad tone. YMMV

Maybe a good solution would instead be a lighter weight 412. My Diezel 412FL is much lighter in weight than my other 412’s since it’s made of okoume rather than the usual birch and still to me is one of my better sounding cabs and right now loaded with V30’s and K100’s

I don’t know if I can say much yet, but there’s also this maker local to me that may come out with these very special 112’s. I’ve played them (prototypes) and they honestly sound bigger than some 412’s I’ve had and just sounded great in general. They have a special design

The old Soldano 4x12 (28"x28"x14") is 72 pounds when loaded with Eminence V12s. Would be 62.4 pounds with Neo Creambacks. Might be worth looking into! No oversized 2x12s have proper 14" depth.

I had a Fender Tonemaster long ago; it was fairly small and sounded nice. They came with British V30s...front loaded. If you find one and re load it with greenbacks, I'd imagine it would be lightweight and it's about the same size as an oversize 212. Even with V30s it was a breeze to load in/out.

Thanks for the replies, I am looking for an older Soldano or I might build one seeing the Soldano are crazy expensive. I built and oversized 212 that sounded great.

Grab an oversized 1x12 for carrying around - it’s fine for most gigs these days.

I run two 4x12s and use hand trucks. They sound great and that’s what I’ve always ran, staircases and all. It sucks at times but not enough to want to bother grabbing a 2x12 and still have to lug that around as bulky as it is.

I put a Neo creamback in my DSL40c to lighten it up. It soundss great after break in. Well worth the price. Sounds as good as my V30's, Creamback 65's, and heritage and reissue greenbacks
