...do Eminence speakers look better-constructed than Celestions, and at a lower price point? Specifically, I'm looking at the Private Jack, Black Powder, & Screaming Eagle models.

Are you just paying for the Celestion "name" & history?

Anyone have experience with these speakers? Not loving the G12T-75's in my 1960A/B cabs and might be looking to make a change.

Hit me with the feedback/experience.

Cheers,

I bpoght a vht 212 threw away the speakers an bought a cannibas and a screming eagle and about shit my pants

I dont know about the construction. But since most Celestions are made in cheap chinese factories Id say the name and stigma thing is true. They almost have the Harley Davidson thing going on.

It just so happens that my Brunneti 059 head likes Eminence speakers. Most of my heads do not. I wouldn't necessarily go out and buy Redcoat/Patriot speakers but, I wouldn't rip them out of my cabs any more as I was going to. I have Ear Candy 2X12 and Custom Audio Electronic 1X12 cabs. The CAA cab sounds KILLER with a Governor loaded in it. The Buzzbomb (EC cab) is a very good cab as a lot of you know but, the Governor/Texas Heat mix that is loaded in sounds VERY different then what I'm used to with Cellestion loaded cabs you know. I didn't appreciate this speaker choice until the 059 came along recently.

The only Eminence speaker I even consider is the P50-E, and it's very picky when it comes to what amps it gets along with.

All of the Eminence speakers have a really unnatural midrange to my ears. Also, none of my favorite guitar tones were ever done with Eminence speakers.

A lot of people blow them off, but the Sheffield speaker line is really good, especially the XXX and 6505 speakers.

A while ago I was looking for a pair of V30s. Couldn't find any and bought a pair of Eminence Redcoat Governors instead. I did not like them at all with my Splawn or VTM. They did seem very well constructed in every way. Too bad they sounded like poop to me. I totally agree about the Peavey speakers. My friend has a Mesa Recto cab loaded with XXX speakers and it sounds killer. I like the 6505 speakers too with certain amps.

Celestion still make good speakers, even the Chinese ones. They do cost more, but are good speakers. The G12T-75 are NOT a speaker I like, and pretty much the dog of the bunch. Vintage 30 mixed with the G12H-30 sounds pretty damn good in a 4x12 or 2x12. The Celestion Gold is amazing for blues, clean and some classic rock stuff. Not recommended for metal, and pretty pricey. I do not like most Eminence, EXCEPT the Deltalite II Neo speaker. Next to the EV12ML, my favorite speaker of all time.

Interesting bit about the P50-E. These are my only real experience with Eminence, and I love them, but something tells me this has a LOT to do with the Fryette cab they're in and the Fryette amp that's powering them. There's a neat midrange 'correction' in them that sounds super smooth when compared to a V30 loaded cabinet. But if I try and run my XTC or VH4 through the Fryette Deliverance (P50-E 4x12), it sounds weak

So it goes. I'm starting to realize that I'd probably be MUCH better off with ONE amp and ONE cabinet and ONE guitar and just get 'em to do everything I possibly can. The can of worms that can be opened when starting to 'expand one's gear horizons' is borderline insanity

What's also complicating the issue is that I know that the Splawn Small/Big block speakers are made by Eminence for Splawn and I REALLY dig those speakers...

i think they're better built, and damn sure priced better.

aren't V30's pushing a $150 nowadays? that's retarded for a made in china POS.

i like the Eminence for big mean Metal amps like the Herbert or Triple Recto, and then English Greenbacks/GT12-65's or Webers for mid gain amps.

i kindda like V30's, but they fall on thier ass when pushed really hard. Governors will kick V30's ass with a thumper amp.

think a lot of the reason people cry about Eminence is that many of thier models are loud as fuck at 1watt. so you're melting faces before you really get the amp wound up.

i like Swamp Thangs, Governors, and Texas Heats.
