hey dudes, i just purchased a 412 fl g12k100. i like it so far but i think it lacks some brilliance in the highs and mids. at this point my marshall 1960 a sounds a lot better. i remember peter stapfer saying in an interview that its g12t75 speaker are "cheap" sounding. i cant agree, i like them very much.

of course the diezel has a superiour building quality and look.

what speaker would you recommend me?! i have 4 vintage 30´s laying around but never liked their harshness and fuzzy fizziness.

it still should be a very powerfull tight sound, but more 3 dimensional and sparkling.

im thinking about the following combinations:

g12k100 and vintage 30 in x
g12k100 and g12h30 (heritage) in x
g12k100 ang g12t75 in x
4 g12h30 (heritage)

any suggestions or experience ?! does the fl version even sound good with a g12h30 ?? or does it fit better rearloaded ?

I too did not like all G12K100's, too neutral and bland. I then went to an X pattern of 2 G12's and 2 V30's. I was much happier. I have had my FL Diezel cab that way for almost two years. Then, recently I bought another FL Diezel cab from the NAMM show and it has all V30's in it and I seem to like it better. Front load, all V30's, just seems to work so well with the Herbert, Uberschalls, rectos, etc.

After tons of experimentaion I found myself with V30's in my FL412 w/ Herbert. I tried different speaker combos as well as speaker placement ( K100's bottom/V30's top vs. X pattern). I liked them over/under better. Still ended up with all V30's. Though interestingly enough I used V30's from a Blackstar oversized (much like a Mesa) cab and they were horrible sounding, pulled V30's from an Egnater Std. 412 cab and sounded great. Go figure

I just purchased an Einstein and an unloaded Diezel 412 cab (rear load). I have been playing with different speakers and combinations. For kicks I loaded a set of G12T 75 From an early 80's JCM 800 Cab and a set of 80's Herritage G12 65's and that combination sounds very good to me as a well rounded set for all modes. But I tend to play more classic and 80's style rock.

Maybe try the 75's?

I just flatout don't like V30's, the K's kill them IMHO.

I'd probably mix in some Eminence Governors.

What head are you running?? (or did i miss that..)

V30/K100 X Pattern is my fav with my VH4
all V30s were my Fav w Herbie
all V30s were my fav with the Einstein

havent tried the others. I def liked the K100 for recording...due to its neutrality. got the guitar/amp tone without coloration.

and if i recall the 75s are similar to the K100s...just a little more "harsh". then again its all in taste...

good luck!!

All amp dependent and musical style dependent, really.

I think G12K100s are awesome speakers for recording - sometimes I think my ears actually grow too accustomed to the mid-bite of the V30s and I think other speakers lack mids. But seriously, once I get back into listening to my K100s, I think they kick ass.

But hey, to each their own. Let us know the amp m'man

thx for your replies.

im playing an einstein and a jcm 800 which sounds verry jmp´ish, awesome clean crunch sound, perfect blues sound for me.

both amps sound more sparkling and pearly with the marshall cab. i m having the same experience with both.

i really like the tightness of the g12k100s, but need more mids for my perfect sound.

going to the rehearsal space today and take 2 v30´s home. i never liked them in the fame cab i used. hope they will shine in the diezel.

What about EVM12L. They will deliver more "everything". Not everyone's taste though.
Also... include a few visits to the gym. ;-)

Did we ever get closure with this speaker matter?!?!?! :dunno:

And why is it every time Eminence is discussed, it's always like they're the red headed step children of speakers??

Just axin',
Mo

THIS, for sure. I had gotten used to the mid hump and now I dial my amps, rather than rely on the cab for that. The K100's are excellent IMO, and if you put another cab above them with other speakers, HOLY SH*T!! I have given up on trying to make 1 cab do it all. I have a few Diezel cabs now and using a 2 cab stack has solved this issue for me. The K100 cab go on the bottom, then mix with another cab to your liking. Sounds FANTASTIC!

I LOVE v30s mixed in an X pattern with g12 65s (the old ones) in a RL for the Einey and the tones the OP is going after. Creamy like a creamsicle. If you need gain it handles it well. It stays smooth, but you still have plenty of cut.

My 2 cents.

Don't see many fans of 65s round these parts... You sure got a purdy toof boyee

All kidding aside, Einstein would command different cones for sure. No dog in that fight though, so can't add to that opine.

i just won 4 g12h 30´s 75hz , originally from 1976 at the bay. 335 euros is a good deal, isnt it ???

they are on their way to me. i will put them into my fl 412 diezel and see how it sounds.

Oh c'mon V! Don't make fun of me being a Texan!!!    A. Wood LOVES them and there was a video of one of the first Herbert Mk II's on here that completely blew everyone away with that same speaker combo!

Thats like 3 of us.. WHAT WHAT?! :gethim:

In all honesty. When I want some crunchy heavy goodness I run FL 30s and 100s in an X. Thats how 3 of my main 4 cabs are configured and I wouldn't have it any other way.
