Hi all. I'm trying to find good speakers for listening, jamming and figuring out tunes and mixing. I will use them for PC speakers as well. I know I'll have to comprise in so me areas and that is fine.

I'm currently using these Edifiers.

I like them, good sound and bass, but when I find that certain guitar parts and other parts of songs get lost with them. To put it another way, they're not detailed enough.

What recommendations do you all have for speakers with really good detail that are multi-purpose?

Thanks,
Jeff

Consider the Yamaha HS series, Jeff.

They're excellent-bang-for-buck studio monitors, so they'll do the job admirably IMHO.

I mix a pair of KRK 6" with Bose (yes I know ) speakers and I find that the two different sets work great mixed differently for most things. The KRK were $100 a pop, and the Bose were $6 at Good Will. But the mix between the two speakers yeilds me a lot of space with sound.

Proper mixing speakers are not the easiest speakers to listen to just enjoying music. They are designed to be really flat and revealing with a low amount of distortion. Basically they miss the low and high end boost, hifi speakers have and most people prefer to listen music on.
Without proper room treatment you will not be able to evaluate mixes to the level you desire, you better use some quality headphones for that.
As for jamming and general PC use, the Yamaha HS5 are cool, I used them for years. The speakers are small enough not to generate overbearing lows creating nasty standing waves in an untreated room.
Kali Audio has some really nice active speakers for the price too. Choose speakers matching the size of your room. Have fun!

I would recommend a good pair of studio monitors over the hi-fi stereo speakers. Like amps, pedals and guitars, it’s a deep rabbit hole when looking for a good pair of monitors at a good price. Generally buy the best pair you can afford or within your budget. The quality is linear with price.

I have JBL lsr 305 monitors and these are really detailed and neutral sounding which is great if you want to hear the actual soundscape of the music. They were about 200€ a pair.
