Speaking of George Lynch - please educate me

So I've been on this forum for a while. And it seems that George Lynch is quite the popular topic of conversation. Lynch this, Lynch tone that, etc, etc.

Now, for the most part, I just don't get it. All I know about him is that he's got a ton of "Lynch-branded" products that I have zero interest in, and all I've ever seen him do is hack away, badly, in some NAMM videos.

Please note: I am NOT HATING on him, at all. I respect anyone who plays music for a living, and loves doing it, and is lucky enough to have all those great endorsements. But I guess I just don't really "get" Lynch. Perhaps I've just never heard the right stuff?

Curiosity has got the best of me.

Please educate me on George Lynch. Can someone give me, to start, a top 5 essential song list for my to listen to?

I would suggest you listen to these recordings:

Under Lock and Key - Dokken
Back For The Attack - Dokken
Wicked Sensation - Lynch Mob

You may not like the style of music as it was a different era, but Lynch's tone and his style is a pretty impossible thing for any lead guitar lover to deny.

+1, but may I add
Mr. Scary - Dokken

Thanks guys. I'm definitely going to check this out. I'm open to all styles of music, and I want to see what all this hub-bub is about.

The only other thing I remember is that he almost died or something in a bike accident? was that true? Did that affect his playing at all?

Good recommendations here (Mr Scary is on BFTA)...he does some cool instrumental stuff on Sacred Groove as well.
If you get through all that head to Dokken's Tooth and Nail album next.

I'm with Chub for sure on this - Under Lock and Key is more a "thinking" Lynch, and it's awesome. Back for the Attack and Wicked Sensation is where he really just cuts loose and the tape just happened to be rolling.

Got somethin against solid state Randall tonez? :D

Ive got a friend who feels just like you about Lynch and the reality is music is subjective so if it doesn't 'do' anything for you it doesn't do anything for you. There is a NOVA special about this which I happened to catch regarding some of this and it is very real that certain things activate your amygdala and some things don't; they put a man into a mri and his emotions responded to Bach and not something similar by Beethoven-Oliver Sacks and Daniel Levitan have written on this stuff I googled it and there are some videos of lectures on this so to those that are interested check it out!

Tooth and Nail is my favorite. The others are good too.

Here's a few songs that have killer Lynch solo's that I've always liked a lot:

(3:08 to 3:14 is one of the pimpest rock guitar phrases you'll ever year)
