Being a nut fan of Zep ever since 1970, I thought I'd seen every picture there was too see.

Just stumbled over this today.
Had seen plenty of pictures of Plant with a guitar - but not this guitar!

Don't leave the Beatles out...

Jimmy Page quote:

"If the Beatles hadn't broken up no-one would have ever even heard of us."

:ROFLMAO:

Trivia:
The last Beatles studio album to hit #1 was Abbey Road.
It was knocked out of the #1 spot by Led Zeppelin II.

LZ is and always will be my favorite band ever.
They set the bar for me personally.
Their heavy rock riffs are my cornerstone as a growing teen.
Van Halen is a close second mind you.
And I started my life in a sorority house I'm told and surrounded by Beatles music (which I also like)

But what is the deal with this pic? Looks like a magazine? So Robert picks up Jimmy's SG to see what it's like in an empty stadium? At least troll me with a statement that Robert really wrote all of Stairway to Heaven and not all Jimmy (or that other band Spirit)

I am sure it is an interesting article. Maybe Robert wrote a song on that guitar for the Coda album? Now that's a story. :D

I don't want to sound too harsh but I don't understand when people say they don't like Led Zeppelin. I think those people only listen to the songs in the radio and don't really give the albums a listen. There is great acoustic stuff, heavy, etc and so much talent.

The other thing is to realize how ground breaking they were in regard to so many genres.

- Johnny Ramone says he got his rhythm style from playing Communication Breakdown.
- Lots of bands had a song with sitar in it in the 60s but Four Sticks was truly a Carnatic like track.
- The song that basically demanded every 70s band that follows do an epic power ballad.
- Kashmir - wtf style is that exactly?
- The Rain Song - same question
- Page's guitar army in tracks like Stairway, The Song Remains the Same, and Ten Years Gone
- My pick for the first fully realized 'Heavy Metal' song ever:

recorded fall 1968 and released early January 69.

The Rain Song - same question
Speaking of the Beatles and Zeppelin, a quote from Slim Jim:

George [Harrison] was talking to Bonzo one evening and said, 'The problem with you guys is that you never do ballads.' I said, 'I'll give him a ballad,' and I wrote 'Rain Song,' which appears on Houses of the Holy. In fact, you'll notice I even quote 'Something' in the song's first two chords.

Love Zep! Not my all time fave but I listen to a track or 2 daily commute to work. Lately it’s been off houses of holy cd. Any track works

If people want to really try to like Zeppelin, they should avoid the hits they hear on the radio every other day. Listen to "In the Light" off Physical Graffiti or "That's the Way" off of Led Zeppelin III. Bron Yr (sp) Stomp is one of my favorites. Gallows Pole rocks, etc, etc.

Like my other favorite bands, Beatles, Deep Purple, etc, there is something for everyone. Led Zeppelin I has that early driving blues, Zeppelin III has alot of experimentation and acoustical work, Zep 4 is a masterpiece and really rocks, Physical Grafitti is amazing with all of these different types of songs. The band just had that thing and chemistry.

John Paul Jones was Led Zeppelin.
That’s debatable but not dismissible either. The fact remains JPJ singularly wrote what is a very strong contender for the most badass and greatest riff of all time. The main riff to Black Dog. That riff is memorable, intricate, nasty, grooving, swinging, tricky, catchy, heavy yet still contains trace elements of blues and funk and just never gets old. What can’t that riff do?

Listen to "In the Light" off Physical Graffiti.

Be willing to bet that a lot of folks who will say "Ya, I know Zeppelin", have never even heard that song!

Little known trivia: Physical Graffiti was the first album to be certified platinum based on advanced orders alone.

The album is made up of half new songs and half leftover stuff from the HOTH sessions.
Plant had throat surgery after the 73 tour and lost the highest range of his voice.

If you listen real closely you can tell which songs are new and which are pre-surgery on Graffiti.
Kashmir is a great example of him getting use to his new range.

Presence/ the whole album is pretty hard to beat.

They weren't even suppose to record that! Plant got in the car accident which made them cancel a huge world tour.
Page got bored and decided to do an album but no-one else had any material so it was the most Jimmy Page
Led Zeppelin album cause he pretty much came up with all the riffs and songs.

Also, notice how it's the only Zep album with no acoustics guitars and no keyboards?
The band were pissed about the cancelled tour and didn't want to fuck around with any 'nice' music.

More trivia: Plant tracked his vocals for the album while in a wheelchair because of the accident.

It's also the most depressing Zep album by a wide margin!

Achilles Last Stand - Plant referencing how his broken ankle had grounded the mighty Zep
For Your Life - about all their LA girlfriends starting to burn out or die from drugs
Nobody's Fault But Mine - self explanatory
Tea For One - song about loneliness
Royal Orleans - about the time JPJ and a drag queen passed out and set his hotel room on fire

One time love, take care how you use it
Try to make it last all night
And if you take your pick
Be careful how you choose it

A man I know, went down to Louisiana
Had himself a bad, bad fight
And when the sun peeked through
John Cameron with Suzanna
He kissed the whiskers, left and right
Whiskers

Now, now, now, fright subsides
Out at a hotel in the quarter
Our friends check in to pass the night
Now love gets hot, but fire preceded water
Poor whiskers set that room alight

This. Always a spot on my daily commute for Immigrant Song, Whole Lotta Love or this B side -Achilles Last Stand.
I don’t think I’ve covered more tunes from any one band more than Zep, in any band I’ve played in over the years

A great riff will always be a great riff. They're ingrained in the DNA.

$5 if you can name the song.

Dum.. Dum.. Dum.. da da Dum....
da da da da Dum.. Dum.. da da Dum....
