so I was just at Joe Satrianis G4 4 day guitar seminar and Neal Schon was there. Man, he was the coolest most humblest guy I've met. Just super down to earth. So there was q&a session with him and I had always been curious about his experience on that song We're Stars from the 80s. He laughed and said it was very interestiong. He said Dio called him and asked him to come down and do a solo. He said on the day, he was super sick and told Dio he just couldn't do it. Dio talked him into it so he flew down. He said they were all in a big line going 1 by 1. He said as soon as his turn came EVERYONE came in and was standing around him like vultures just waiting for him to fail lol. He said he thought man I'm just gonna do what I do. And of course he laid it down and owned that solo (and I told him that) and the rest was history but it was sure cool to hear him talk about it. Here's the tune in case there are any youngsters that have e no idea what I'm talking about

That orange guitar at the beginning of the video always catches my eye. It is the only S H S pickup configuration I have ever seen.

That's great. Everyone was so young and skinny. Damn

Definitely during my favorite decade of guitarist. Good to see them all together having fun.

I've watched this video hundreds of times, even bought the VHS when it came out. Never noticed it was a S H S guitar. Cool! and yeah, unusual.

Love that collaboration! I bought it on vinyl when it came out and still have it!

At the time I always thought the Yngwie 'Owned' the Solo, then came Vivian. But, whenever I watched the video, I was mostly in awe/jealousy of Geoff Tates voice and embarassed by don Dokkens weakassed voice. As cheesy as the song is, the collaborative construction makes it a unique timecapsule.

what a great time. I have that tune on iTunes and play it on occaision - totally freaks people out with all the solos. Ahhhh, those were the days!

Schon, George Lynch, and Yngwie smoked everyone else on that IMHO.

They named it wrong. First time I saw the video I thought it should be called "ego's galore"

Cool story, thanks! Video never gets old, golden age of metal and amazing guitar players all at the top of their game....man, I watched that over and over again, YJM/Lynch/Schon(in that order lol) ....and the powerful vocals just killin' it. So much awesome in one place. Love that so much. RIP RJD!
