anyone try v30's in a splawn cab ? just curious how it sounded if anyone has. i have tried a lot of speakers in this splawn 4x12 cab and all have sounded like shit. v30's are my only hope, but im not sure if i even wanna mess with it   . just looking for opinions on the combination for anyone who may have tried it

I have not tried Vintage 30s but the word on the street seems to be that they are not a great fit due to all the inherent mids already in the Splawns.

What about Splawn Small Blocks/Big Blocks in an X pattern?

I absolutely despise splawn small block's . I had two big blocks in a 2x12 that sounded good, but havent tried them in the splawn cab. The speakers i have tried are : small blocks, g12n-65's (favorite so far), g12t-75's, g12m-70's, and eminence texas heats. I dont know if its the grille cloth or what but the cab always sounds to trebly and crackly. Hard to explain, but its fukin annoying.

Haven't heard one with V30's in it, but Greg has a Splawn straight cab with Celestion M25 Greenbacks in it, and with a Marshall amp pushing I swear to you it's up there with some of the best guitar tones I've ever heard. A Splawn cab with C-Greens is my next cab because of this.

The Splawn cabs are awesome ... really well made. They are very punchy and "natural" sounding cabs. The build quality is second to none. Yes, I have tried both the Chinese and English V30's in Splawn 4x12's and 2x12's ... and they sound great, IF you like V30's. The Chinese and English have a completely different tone. The V30's are maybe not a preferred match to some of the Splawn heads ... I like the Nitro and QR better with the Small Blocks. And the Scumback speakers are all awesome with most amps. (M75,J75,H75 ... both large and small dust caps)

I agree with Carl...Scumbacks rock. I use the Man o War/Govner combo in mine...sounds awesome with any amp.

I guess i shoulda mentioned i run my 6505 through this particular cab. I may try the governor/man o war combo next. My v30's are chinese and actually sounded really good in my krankenstein cab, but its oversized. I may give the v30's a shot, just hate soldering all the connections.

Im ordering some A WGS et65 and WGS vet30 to drop in a Mesa cab to try with the 6505+. Illlget back to you on that.

I have a Splawn cab with sb25s and my Nitro sounds great thru it by my 6505+ and Baron k88 sound like shite through it.

i have a v30 loaded splawn.i think it sounds great.played a Chupa thru it and sounded very good.

also used a Marshall Vintage Modern with it and it also sounded really good.

i ran PV 3120 thru it and it didn't sound so great.i blame that on the head.lol!

next cab,i'm thinking of scumbacks.and may be a Cameron cab.but i have no complaints at all with the Splawn.

50 or 100 watt head? I would say go with:

a. 2 scumback + 2 EVH celestion greenback (cheaper than the heritage greenies and sound awesome from what i have heard)

b. 2 reissue greenies + eminence Super Vs. This is what I am rolling with in an avatar 4 x 12. This combo is killer. Crunchy, full, highs under control. The eminence Super V was Lynch's sig speaker for about a week so you know it was designed with proper handling and tone in mind. It can take 150 watts. A super powered good V30 that has some Fane characteristics as well apparently. Either way, killer with a greenie.

C. 4 EVH celestions

+1 on the Eminence Lynch super V. I have had one in three different cabs, and in a regular sized cab it rocks!! I actually didn't like them much in the Lynch box cab. I thought that was kind of odd. Last night I put the Super V, and a Delta Pro 12a (EVM 12L clone) in my port city cab, and it is killer!! I could see a greenback, or EVH celestion going really good with it!!!

Sorry. I was drunk. Not sure why but for some reason I was thinking you were talking about a Splawn head too.

Really? That seems odd. The only thing I can think of is that maybe they were brand new? They (ie lots of speaker brands) sound overly harsh and bright until broken in.

I've noticed this with the Splawn Smallblocks, G12H30, Classic Lead 80, Man O War, Private Jack, etc.

WGS and Avatar's Hellatones are good ideas too.

Im not sure what it was about em but i hated em.

Im more than likely just going to sell the cab. I have several and its my least favorite so ill prolly unload it and sell it empty. Still undecided though

I have a splawn 4x12 with celetion alnico golds and they sound great, i was thinking of replacing 2 with v30's, let us know how it sounds! if you do in fact try it
