Bought a nitro off marketplace, and was really stoked about it. I live an hour and a half from splawn and never really spent any time on them. Loved it at home through my captorx, then took it to practice and it sounded washed out and blurry. Pretty much why i didn't bond with my old rev blue uber. Took it home and used the footswitch to default it to overdrive1, and found its punch. Now i need to try it at rehearsal again; but is there a way to default it to overdrive1 without the footswitch?? Overdrive2 is just too much and i cant imagine needing this. I hate that you cant choose on the front panel, and i dont normally use a footswitch.

Im about 45 mins or so from Splawn. I was at the 2007 or 08 Splawn convention . I ordered my Nitro in late 2009 got it in 2010.

Im in Columbia and cant believe ive never spent more than a few minutes in their amps.
The overdrive2 is just too blown out for my taste, and 1 is plenty, and i play seven strings in drop tuning. I dont want to “throw the baby out with the bathwater”; but i hate having to use a footswitch. Should be a way to shunt a trs “plug” and make it default. Unless im missing an obvious solution.

SC? yeah Im up in Alexander Co. I was at the convention when Scott introduced The Nitro. I ordered mine with El34s and then after a simple mod I put Gold Lion KT88s in her. I did the whole Randy Rhoads white marshall thing with matching 412 cab. Small Block Big Block X pattern. Ive owned several Quick Rods which I prefer. Good stuff

First congrats

So you are saying that when you turn on your Nitro it is defaulted to OD2?

I don't think this thread actually addresses your need, but there is good info in here nonetheless:

AI Gemini:

In most cases, the Splawn 4-button footswitch defaults to OD1 (Overdrive 1) when the overdrive channel is selected, meaning the OD1/OD2 switch's LED will be off.
However, the specific "default" behavior can depend on a few factors:
Amp Model & Age: While the 4-button footswitch is common with models like the Quick Rod, Pro Mod, Nitro, and Street Rod (optional), and Super Sport (optional), there might be variations or specific settings depending on the year of manufacture.
Mode Switch: The 4-button footswitch also includes a Mode Switch. If your amp's front panel is set to 1st gear, the footswitch lets you toggle between 1st and 2nd gears. If the front panel is on 3rd gear, you can switch between 3rd and 2nd. The footswitch defaults to 2nd gear in this scenario and cannot directly switch between 1st and 3rd.
Custom Setup (if applicable): If you are using a custom switching system or a non-standard setup, the default might be configured differently.
To ensure OD1 is your default when using the overdrive channel
Check the Overdrive 1/Overdrive 2 Switch: Ensure the LED for this switch is off on your footswitch, indicating OD1 is engaged.
Consult your amp's manual: For the most accurate and specific information, refer to your amp's user manual for detailed instructions on footswitch operation and settings for your model.
In general, the Splawn 4-button footswitch is designed to make OD1 the starting point for your overdrive tones on the overdrive channel, allowing you to then engage OD2 as a boost.

Also @Fusionbear has a lot of experience with these I believe - he may have some ideas. If you get into a real bind, I'd create a thread in the main forum asking "how to modify a splawn 4 button footswitch". Lots of smart people on this forum

I can tell you after owning my Nitro for almost 20 years.. OD1 is where it's at. OD2 is cool for jamming on your own, but for a full band mix go OD1.

The one trick I found and so have other folks here is turn your presence to about between 2 and 3 o'clock and then adjust the Treble to your likeness. That I found opens up the amp nicely.

Stay low on the bass dial. It's a very bassy amp, it'll wash out your tone if you use too much bass and it'll become boomy.

The Resonance I found my "sweet spot" around between the 10-11 o'clock right around the R.

Lastly, put a Sovtek 12AX7LPS in the PI socket. That tends to open up the amp more.

Hope that helps and good luck.

This is all great advice. I think OP is asking to have OD1 as the default. He mentions OD2 is too much.

Sadly, never played a Nitro but my QR has bass for days. Crazy as this seems, I run the treble at zero and then jack the presence up. That opens the amp up for me. I also put in some Chinese pre's
