Splawn Quick Rod.......WOW!

If you buy a Quickrod do not judge it unless you pair it with the recommended speakers. If you use whatever speakers and cab you have then your opinion does not count at all.

I avoid amps that only sound good with a narrow range of enclosure style/speaker types personally. Pigeonholes your choices...

My old QR I used celestion x pattern in Splawn enclosure, didn't want Splawn speakers. I use multiple amps with the same cab it would too limiting imo.

Interestingly enough I hear the same argument regarding the SLO especially on TGP. Definitely would not want to buy a Soldano 4x12 cab with Eminences because the SLO can't play nice with other cabs/speakers.

Although I've heard killer SLO clips played through other non-Soldano speaker/cab configurations.

Just made a deal for my 3rd one. Now I've got a 2005, 2010 and a 2012 incoming. One of the others will likely to have to go, but I can't decide which. Three is just excessive. Isn't it?

3 is barely enough. At the minimum you need one for gigging, one for a backup, and one for the practice place. I have had 5 back surgeries and I leave a stack in the basement for practice and have one upstairs that I gig with. I can't handle going up and down steps with all that stuff anymore.

Splawns are great value for the buck imho. Plus Scott is a great guy. I have one of the first QR's with shared EQ for the channels along with a Splawn straight 4x12 with guvnors and man o wars. I'm not into modern, de-tuned deth metal 12 octaves below a bass guitar with massive amounts of gain so it works out for my classic 80-90's metal ear where vocalists actual sang and didn't grunt or mimic cookie monster in public

And you mean you actually use more than one finger to play the guitar??

Super bright amp, can be ice picky I agree. I liked the amp alot but definitely agree it was one of the brightest and sharpest I've ever owned.

This is somewhat true. While I've got good tones through a Marshall 1960BV, the best tones I've got are with Splawn Cabs and Splawn speakers (Small Blocks AND Big Blocks). I have a Splawn 4x12 and 2x12, both with Small Blocks, and an Avatar 2x12 Vintage with Big Blocks. What I can't wait for is hearing the Quick Rod with my incoming Whitebox Engineering 2x12 with WGS ET65s. THAT ought to be interesting!

I like the way you think

I have always done this with my toothbrush, but now I will do this with my "gig rig" as well. You may have just improved my quality of life and the longevity of my back

I still can't understand why people bash them I mean, great quality, great customer service, great price and of course great tones. What's not to like??

I emailed scott twice on a problem I had with a brand new out of box quickrod I just bought... No reply soooooo fixed amp without his awesome customer service felt like I was trying to get ahold of eganter customer service again...

Don't email Scott if you call he will assist you and do what ever it takes. I think he even has something about getting to his emails and to just call on his web page. Scott is one of the best there is. Just my 2 cents.

I never got the bright issues either.

Articulate? Yes. Tight? Yes.

Get some JJs in the preamp. Preamp tubes matter. So do speakers as mentioned. I'm running a Small Block 212, SED =C=, 5751 in PI and JJs everywhere else. May go to JJs for power next. I play in C standard mostly. I'd call it dark and thick TBH

Anyone who says a Splawn sounds bad is dialing in the amp with their eyes, not their ears, I can pretty much guarantee you. I saw someone who had the same problem. He wanted to hear something he wasn't getting out of the amp. I sent him away to where he couldn't see the knobs. Kept dialing until he was loving the sound. When I showed him where the knobs were his knee-jerk reaction was, "Well, that can't be right" and went to put the knobs where he "thought" they should be. That's just stupidity. If it sounds exactly like you want, who cares where the knobs are, if the presence is dimed or the mids are full cut. LISTEN, DON'T EYEBALL!!!

Dude you are LITERALLY the only person I have ever encountered with anything negative to say about their customer service. As posted above, maybe read the part on the website that says:

I have had at least 15 phone conversations in the last few months with Scott, Mike and Brian. Someone always answers the phone during business hours.

I love my 2012 QR ! I do play with the treble completely off but thats just me.

I just got my 2012 QR from GC last Friday. Grabed it and went straight to soundcheck. Understand that this is not a complaint or B*%ching just more of reaching out. 1st, the clean. WOW that is as smooth as water pouring. The stuff my band does requires quit a bit of gain. What I noticed...... (settings 1st) gain on 3:00 Master voulme where it should be, gig levels. EQ bass 3, treble and presence 4 and 5 bass 3. Effects loop adjusted as needed with an ISP decimator to clean up the hiss.

With that said, when I tried to dial in the gain I noticed that it had this hash/fizzy almost a muffled sound. I would have to equal it to a guitar string that is set to low and the buzz that follows. I did try several guitars (all LP customs) one with duncan blackouts, JB/Jazz and Gibson 500T 498R. I plugged into several different cabs with the same results. Keep in mind the clean still sounding incredible.

The head was sold as new/used w/warrenty. I do have a Splawn 4x12 cab with 55 watt small blocks in route. Any suggestions from you guys on what may be causing this, tubes? EQ? Clean my ears ? Whatever, please fire away. I cannot give up on Splawn after all the vids and reviews I want this to work. Thanks for reading this and thanks in advance for your responces. As we say on.

I love my QR, but tone is subjective, obviously. I hate the boogie rectifier sound and lots of guys love it. I have an 06, to me the clean channel is plenty useable. I play mostly rock based stuff, but it works. I run the eq weird to get that, or sometimes use a sonic maximizer to sweeten it a little. I like the amp best with fairly low output pickups, less hair. Lots of tones available between all the channels and pickup switching switching.

I had an issue with mine, blew tubes and fuses. JO previous owner had the wrong fuses in (I didn't check, my fault). Took out some resistors in my OD channel. I suddenly had a fizzy, bright, overly present amp that sounded awful and ate 2 brand new sets of tubes before I figured out what was up. Scott was super helpful on the phone with the diagnosis, and I got my amp back sounding great. Took 2 months, but hey it's perfect again.

Customer service with Scott Splawn?? Has to be one of the best in the business..I have called Scott more than enough times and he always answers the phone and ALWAYS has time to talk and answer questions no matter how busy he is and never cuts you short on the phone..First class guy in my book

I bought my Quick Rod used so imo Scott doesn't owe me a thing. He could never answer my phone calls or emails and it wouldn't really bother me.

That said, he treats me like a gigging professional who owns 3 new Splawns

My 2012 rocks. I am glad I play splawn again. Just the amp for me....and the 2012 is better than my old one....cuz it's clean channel is killer....plus it is way more versatile. Talked to Scott on the phone, and he was way cool. I was kinda nervous talking with him, cuz to me he is a prophet of the amp gods.

But, emails are hit and miss. Just don't be afraid to call...He and his guys stand by their product whether you have bought from them or gotten it off the used market.

On a side note...I ordered some tubes from Scott, and they shipped same day and I got them cross country hella fast.
