I have a Pro Stock that I love, BUT, I want a lower wattage amp these days. Looking at the Super Sport.

Who's played it live and at home and what do you think? I don't have experience with 6v6 amps. I don't play super clean, I usually just guitar volume for cleans. Will this amp CUT live like my Pro Stock?

I play in cover bands that do AC/DC, Zep, Aerosmith, Sabbath, SRV, Stones, GNR, Black Crowes, Alice in Chains, and all variations of Metallica. Can the Super Sport handle this?

What are the drawbacks to the Super Sport?

Look forward to your help, gents and ladies (if any are ever on here).

Cheers!

Been wondering about this cool looking amp myself. And not to muddy your thread, but Splawn also makes a 22w Nitro, same features as the SS...2 channel, loop, loop control, f.s., etc. And i'm wondering what the differences in the two are...Voicing?

I've read that the SS sounds good at low volumes, holds together nicely. Here is a YT of Scott (I believe) playing a SS112 combo, and it appears to be really low volume as you can hear the pick work easily...and IMO, it still sounds nice.

The SS is a killer amp. It is extremely loud for 22 watts and the voicing cuts through just fine live (for me at least). At low volumes it sounds great too (due to the loop volume). The SS can easily handle the genres you put up. With a boost it can do even more. I can't think of many drawbacks honestly. Its my favorite tube combo for sure.

I had one. Didn't care for it. More mid scooped than the QuickRod. Didn't have that bite. Also shared EQ was frustrating. Sold it and happily went back to the QR.

+1. Felt like it needed a boost for leads. Blah at home volumes

Damn. I want lower watt but gigable amp like a Splawn that can rock at home and small gigs. Something Marshally that cuts but doesn't have to be LAF to sound good.

Maybe the Ceriatine Son of Yeti, or the the like.

Wow you guys are a tough crowd. Personally I'd try to play one and decide for myself. I personally love the thing, but as you can see subjective is the name of the game.

I love my SS for home playing which is all I do , loud home playing I might add but it does sound good at lower volumes. I`ve had a Compeition and Quick Rod and If I was gonna gig and didn`t need a clean channel I`d go with the Competition. I`ve never gigged with the SS but my ears tell me it would`t cut it but I could be wrong.

I owned one. Sounded ok at low volumes. I could play it at almost max volumes and it wouldnt kill your hearing. Dont think it would be loud enough at band settings. Shared eq was a drag also.

The Competition in a small head box is also something to consider 50 watts with the new/old mod and loop are a Killer set up! Had a QR and a SR the Competition is better than both

With the streetrod out there, why bother?

Looking for an amp that can do Apartment and Gigs. I don't need Pro Stock power these days, so I intend to sell it, but it's been my favorite amp and I've had the Helios, Modded 800s, various others. Splawns are tremendous value.

Perhaps I can do the SR and that will get me better tones at home. I liked the idea of a 22watter that can do home and small gigs with a 2x12 and still cut.

I had the same plan. Tried many amps but ended up keeping it.

I truly think the splawns sound awesome with the loop volume turned down. I've tried to go down in wattage but 50w seems to be my minimum.

Have you put any thought into keeping your amp and going with a Fryette Power Station or a TwoNotes product? If you dig your current rig that much, I think you'll be disappointed with something else. The SuperSport might be great, but it isn't your ProStock.

Bumping this thread . I just got EL34s installed in my Super Sport and it`s definitely gigable now . Not quite as loud as the Competition I had but darn loud nonetheless . I had been toying with the idea of having it converted from the 6v6s to EL34s for a few years now and finally had a local tech do it and it sounds awesome. I`m in the process of breaking in 2 Creamback G12Ms so imagine it`s only gonna sound better

Cool. Let us know the results.
