So guys,
here's my dilemma. I salivate every time I hear someone playing on a Quick Rod or a Nitro. I absolutely love the sound. However, I don't know which I would rather have! I play a wide range of rock/metal music. I like having the British Crunch from the Quick Rod but I also like the metal tones you can get from the Nitro. However, I know that both are capable of playing a variety of styles. What do I do?!

My ownership of a Nitro was short-lived. I found it too saturated and muddy at the gain levels I needed. But, I sold it locally to a friend and he loves it. Go figure!

Seems the QR is the Splawn of choice, judging from comments over the last few years.

having owned both, the Quickrod was far more versatile. I also dug the Quickrod voicing much more than the Nitro

Go with the QR. You can always slam it with a pedal and EQ to get more gain and tone shaping, but you can't "take away" from a baseline dark high gain amp.

I have owned both..both good amps but if I had to choose it would be the QuickRod hands down. More versatile, 3 gear selector can get you from Plexi to JCM 800 to Hot Rodded Marshall tones and then some. QR is much more 'middy' and cuts like a knife during live applications. Nitro is more 'forgiving' and compressed but still far from Diezel saturation... Scott designed the Nitro for the more modern rock/Nu metal tone seekers.. I think the Quickrod covers the Nitro's territory just fine and gets you that Hot Rodded Marshall tone that the Nitro has trouble getting. Just ask Andy Wood, Iced Earth, Brad Noah, etc...They have all tracked or toured with the QR. Just be sure you get the updated QR that has the Loop Volume therefore you can play at bedroom levels and still get quality tone and tube breakup. Cheerz and good luck in whatever you decide.

To be fair, the Nitro is an AWESOME amp--I think too many people tweak the EQ on the Nitro with their eyes and not with their ears. I'm about to revert mine back to EL34s after using KT88's for a long time. Issue was I couldn't realistically get the gain past 11:00 in a band setting. Nitro has SATURATION to spare...

I am really leaning toward the QuickRod! I love the versatility! The Nitro is an awesome amp as well though.

I think that the quick rod is much better at retaining that brit marshall type tone then the nitro. I didnt like the nitro as much, i dont dig the modern voicing which seemed like too much low end.
