Friedman BE above it is mine (#79). Sorry, no clips. Played both side-by-side through same cabinet.

I did not think that was misleading. The SS100 prototype was the one a few of us played and heard at the winter NAMM show. The one pictured is the final product. Thought it was clear which one was mine. Nice avatar, Jim.

Good! Ever slighlty different than the BE100. Played through the Friedman cabinet pictured with Celestion V30's which Stevens uses.

SS100 tonal attributes compared to my BE100:
-Similarly voiced to the BE100 with slightly more emphasis on bass overtones.
-Basically, the same amount of gain as BE100 in HBE mode, although some may perceive there to be more it really sounds on par with the BE.
-The bottom end lays down, squashes, and compresses a bit more than the BE.
-Slightly less prominence and accent in the mid-range. Mids did not sustain as well as with my BE.
-More punch, and perhaps thump, in the low end response which hits you in the chest more so.
-Somewhat meaner and darker overall in tone.
-I considered the BE to provide a bit more clarity to the signal mostly due in part to and in the mids.
-That classic mid 70's -80's Marshall-like mid-range and drive was better represented by the BE over the SS.
-SS100 has the full clean channel compared with the simple clean in the BE.
-SS100 is a stripped down version of the BE. The only switch present and different on the back is a gain style selector switch- no C45, FAT, or SAT switches. Not to complicate things, but I can see where the addition of the C45 switch to add more clarity to the mids may be to some people's likings. Depends on what you are after and prefer.
-As pictured, there is only one input not two on the SS100.
-Overall, to my ears it sounded like there were only a couple of very minor tweaks made to the circuit.
-SS100 cleans up quite well from the volume knob of the guitar.
-BE is a bit stiffer and tighter sounding than the SS100.

The pics I took are the settings I settled on when playing through each with what I consider my LP killer guitar. This gives plenty of gain and volume through a 4x12 to keep it noisy there at TM and be heard in Dave's back shop area (not that that was my intent). This should give you an idea of how subtly different the two are. Hopefully, that will help. Feel free to ask additional questions if you like.

I imagine that unless one AB's them in the same room it would be hair-splitting to distinguish the high gain/OD channel of the SS from Marsha/BE/HBE.

Good to know. Guess you forgot to mention that to me. FWIW, I personally thought the red one looked better than the first silver NAMM prototype. Are there other changes being made to it besides the looks for the end product?
