Dont know exactly how to put it, but my G Major 2 is starting to sound "lifeless" to my ears. I'm thinking about going back to pedals. Perhaps this is a good chance to simplify things. Will get a reverb, delay, tuner and maybe a boost pedal. That's it. Thinking about getting a TC Electronics Polytune tuner, an MXR Aanalog Carbon Copy Delay and a Suhr Koko Boost. Dont have a clue about the reverb. What do you think?

I think pedals are great, I like having some diversity but they do get $$$ when you star collecting. Great tones & options vs your wallet!

I really want to take a minimalist approach to my effects. That's the reason I'm planning to get pedals that are simple to use, with not too many options. Pedals that have few control buttons and could be set up on the fly. I think that my choices are good. Now I need to select a reverb pedal and put my G Major 2 for sale.

my go to reverb is still the tc hall of fame, i dig the tone and it's one of the best to my ears in it's price that can do really huge/ambient reverbs and the more normal verb sounds, very easy to setup too

Save your gear.

It's a phase. We all go thru them. Maybe in a year or two it will sound good to you again.

I am digging pedals again now. Minimalist approach.

If you haven't tried it the GMajor 2 is great with a parallel loop for time based effects..the Suhr minimix 2 if your amp just has a serial loop, turns the g major into a fairly low budget but super high end sounding effects unit.

I did exactly the same thing. Started with nothing but a JMP and a few pedals, went through the whole modeling and rack gear phase (Eleven Rack) and finally decided that I wanted things simple and what I like to refer to as plug and play. Went back to using my modded JMP and added a modded Laney. Built a simple pedal board with delay, chorus, overdrive, Plextortion and EQ as my foundation. As things stand right now I couldn't be happier.

Are you please with the quality of the sounds you are getting from your pedalboard?

I am very pleased....and the funny thing is I don't have expensive pedals and didn't spend a fortune. Here's what I use:

Boss TU-2, Wampler Plextortion, Hardwire CM-2 Overdrive, MXR EQ, Hardwire CR-7 Chorus, TC Flashback. I use the delay the most and only use the overdrive in vintage mode to tighten up my amp. My main amp is a Voodoo modded (Jose mod) Laney VH100R. I find that the overdrive (the way I have it set) tightens the amp up a bit. The Plextortion is on my board for back-up purposes in the event I lose the dirt channel for some reason. The only other thing on my board is an interface that Casey from Fall Out labs made for me.

The whole modeler and rack phase really intrigued me as I play in a cover band and wanted different tones and settings at my disposal with one step on one button. With said, I have little patience for tweaking and spending hours getting things set-up and started to lose interest. I then found myself wanting to get back to simplicity and focus more on playing rock and roll and less on tweaking. I couldn't be more pleased and tonally I am very happy that I did so.

Sounds like the way to go for me then.
If simplicity is the goal....I couldn't agree more. Others may disagree, but for me it doesn't get any easier with the only exception being plugging straight into the amp and not using any effects.

Here's my board:

Do it. I had the same dilemma, I downsized, and couldn't be happier. I went from this:

to this:

for effects and am extremely happy with the simplicity and my tone. Now I don't have to worry about ground loops, excess noise, tone suck, anything! Actually, I switched out the Flashback for a Malekko 616 and love that thing!

Great looking board!!!!! What does that interface do?
The interface allows me to run the top row of pedals (minus the noise supressor which is no longer on the board) in my amps effects loop while the bottom row runs out front. The cables from the amp plug into one side of the interface and the board is wired into the other. Makes it easy so you don't have to run 3 different cables directly to the pedals. The nice part about that interface is if I want to run everything out front, all I need to do is run one cable from the FX return output to the input of the amp. The interface has internal switching that takes care of the rest.

In sum and substance the interface makes everything tidy and efficient.

Yup! You are right on point. I did the whole/rack processor thing and to trouble shoot was like tapping into quantum physics. ISP through the loop to clean my Quickrod up on the gain, EVH phaser, Suhr koko boost, boss SD-1, Boss tuner, dunlop wah, powerplus 2 and.....lift off!

Yep had gmajor2 thought it was the shit sold it back to pedals. Then bought another gmajor2 recently got pissed at the delay the other day pulled out my Tc flashback n 2 seconds had what I wanted.

It's a vicious fkn evil circle going round n round n round n .........well u get the point !

Well said!

I hear ya on this.. I also got the Gmajor II thinking i could use it to cop all these diff sounds.. however at the end of the day, I just always go back to what I like. The only thing I use mine for is the echoplex setting. When you factor in you need to also buy a midi interface to select between presets, a tech 21 midi mouse (cheapest) you tack on 120$. So you take a used Gmajor II (325$ say? ) + 120= 445$. That is some good cashola to put towards your pedals. If you like cheaper pedals you can get by..

Here is a pic of my current board. I'd like to add a delay (thinking carbon copy) and a tuner but so far phaser: 50$, bad monkey 50$, chorus 55$, ZW-44 traded, decimator 125$ I think it was at the time. I might just replace both the OD's with an OCD as a backup and also as a boost as I like to just tighten my JCM800 (which has a few mods for gain).

EDIT: can't seem to attach a pic so use your imagination! :)
