I'm into the heavy Meshuggah-inspired bands, but I can't stand this new "core" influence stuff that's getting popular. Periphery, Circle of Contempt, Tesseract, etc. On paper it seems like something down my alley, but I have yet to hear one band do it right.

This is how I feel about the Deftones. I should be loving what they do but I'm only mildly into them. Although one of the main reasons why I don't care for them as much is that Chino gets a bit repetitive.

I found this on another board (Got Djent) and I'm really into it. It's more along the lines of the more popular 7-string djent bands around right now than the heavy, Meshuggah-style, but the vocals are much more palpable than the more "core" influenced bands, and closer to prog metal. The EP is free to download too!

Huh? Opeth crushes all djent, see's it driven before them and feels the lamentation of duh math metalers. ;)

The best gateway Meshuggah album would probably be Chaosphere, IMO. I've known about Meshuggah since Nothing first came out, but they never really clicked with me until Obzen was released and reminded me that they existed. Since then, I've been nutty about them, and have grown to appreciate the entire discography, but Nothing (the re-issue version) has become my long-time favorite.

Check out Aussie band Circles, they just released a great EP called The Compass, also look out for ALIASES, they have a new album due out soon (PIN from Sikth)

So with Meshuggah, I decided to go with an old album (Destroy Erase Improve) and their newest (Obzen). I definitely prefer Obzen. I think I'll continue on backwards in their catalog.
