Loo what? VHTS muddy and not cutting through? Worse tone of true night? LOL OK..... Are we really talking about vht with comments like that? Vht is far and away the best live amp I've ever used bar none end of story...

I think what many forget are the various factors that contribute to a mix. The guitar cutting through has as much to do with the way the drums are tuned and miced as well as the bass guitar being dialed in as the guitar tone itself. The same goes for bass, drums, keys, vocals and any other instrument. If the instruments are walking all over each other's sonic space you'll have a mess no matter what you're playing through.

I have a Pittbull 45, which is el84 powered, and it has nice saturation, very controllable gain structure, killer on board reverb, great cleans too. I mean really a great 2ch amp. I'm running it through a Marshall MF280 cab, so I'm not sure what the speakers are, but it sounds killer especially when you turn up the volume and get some air moving.

My opinion is not just based on that concert...but that pretty much summarizes every experience I've had playing them. They may be cool for some, but not to my ears. They all have a certain gain structure that I just don't dig. Not saying their bad amps...but they are just not for me. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion :)

Of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Different strokes for different folks.

Yup...and I prefer your Shiva and JMP tones

Fortunately I still have the D60, JMP and Super Shiva. When I finally start playing again I'll certainly not be lacking for something sweet to wank on.

I know his power amps are untouchable. They are far and away the best I've ever heard.
Yep. I own a newer 2/90/2 and it's amazing. Almost too potent. Clear. Headroom. And the tonal adjustments are supreme.

But seriously, what was I thinking at 100W a side

My favorite amps in the world, and I've owned just about all of them
The whole dry thing I have always heard has always baffled me. I have simply come to the conclusion that people are just use to amps covering up what their playing instead of the old, "you get out of it what you put into it."
If you need a specific amp and effects to make your playing sound good, then Fryette (VHT) is not going to be your amp. If you are into having an amp produce exactly what you and your guitar are actually doing, then you will love them.
Fryette amps are ALL ABOUT dynamics and always have been.
I need to find a Memphis head to go into my stable. I love that little amp. My Super 30 silences most 100w heads and it's a little 1x12 combo. And the heads are in a league of their own. The GP3/2-90-2 is the shiznitz...
       Mr. Fryette

Couldn't agree more and like you, I've been through every high gain head out there.. what vht/fryette amps offer was exactly was I was always looking for in an amp. No other amps really are as articulate imo.

NOW this thread is starting to come to life!! And damn straight it's high time

I had a very early Pitbull Fifty/Twelve that wasn't nearly as dry as the newer/later stuff. See here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5V_4BqgxPY&nomobile=1

I started watching but there's no way this is a legit demo with those shoes and those pants so I turned it off.
You think they're pleated? True guitar cats can't do pleats.

Seems he's got a 20thA 4x12 there too. Possible dentist player?

Meh, no one said they weren't dynamic. Many say they are dry. There's lots of amps that have less gain and compression than the VHT high gainers, such as Wizards and Plexi Marshalls. Not easy to play on amps. But they have such a complex harmonically layered and sweet tone that it doesn't come across as dry at all. I, along with many others, are just not hearing that same kind of harmonic juiciness in the high gain VHT tone.

The ultra lead is one of my favorites of all time. The thing about the ultra lead is you have to be on couse any mistake really shows up and its not a forgiving amp at all. Thats what I loved the most about it it really makes you a better player in the long run. I regret letting mine go.

Steve Fryette is doing a bunch of videos showing the gear being used. This is the first one.
I have other amps but the last several years I have been using Fryette & THD pretty much.
Not everyone likes strawberry's yet the sun seems to come up everyday...
Deliverance 120, Sig X & SAS are personal favorites of mine.
