That guy is such a badass player and all around nice guy but I have to tell you, I cant stand him in Deep Purple. Good as he is, he is sooo out of place in that band IMHO of course...

I'd like to see him in a southern rock context myself. by the way forgive mtyping. had shoulder surgery yesterday and i'm on perkaset-oxycodine

Funny, I only enjoy him in Deep Purple, love the phrasing!
and he does have the most kick ass delays panned on one side- effective without being in your face...that's the benchmark for lead delay tones imo

Hope you feel better.

I have two Flashbacks but haven't even messed with the tone prints. Guess I should look into those.

it's a shame that so much of the new Deep Purple stuff is completely ignored by today's rock radio stations.

He was best w/ the Dregs and his own Steve Morse Band. Like oil and water in Deep Purple

I thought that he was good fit in Kansas, a lot of what they did had a bit in common with what he did with the dregs but yeah, he's the proverbial square peg in a round hole in deep purple IMHO. I've tried to get into what he's doing there but it just isn't working for me

i guess I don't see the issue with him in Deep Purple, but I'm guilty of not having their recent album. I have the one "bananas" or something like that and it's really good. Whenever I see recent footage, he appears to be having a good time with the guys in the band. On the sad side, he's probably forced to play a lot of the old Deep Purple hits because with modern radio and everyone stuck in the past -nobody seems to want to hear new stuff. Kinda like how Iron Maiden keeps releasing new music, but does entire tour sets based on earlier work.

I guess I should clarify... Bananas and Rapture of the deep are cool and Steve sounds great on those. HOWEVER, The minute they go into the old Blackmore stuff, I dont like it at all..

Ive been a fan of Deep Purple since I was a kid so the old stuff is important to me. As good as Bananas and Rapture of the deep sound, it just isnt Deep Purple to me.

Yeah. I agree with what you're saying. I still think it's a shame that so many of these bands get zero airplay and are only recognized for stuff that happened 35 years ago. A band like Deep Purple seems to continue to try and make fresh music. Then again, they may be much more popular in europe. Like UFO, If I read correctly, their latest album actually went to #1 for a few weeks in England (UFO).

I am a big fan of blackmore and still like his style better then morse, but after seeing DP in concert this year, i think Morse does a good job,his solos he hits some of the key blackmore notes , but also does his own thing..

I have too say i have never seen a band have so much fun on stage , they are truly best friends .. Roger Glover was the most personal, the last one off stage , likes to work the crowd.

Steve is one of my favorites. I have mixed feelings about him being in Purple. I am sure it gives him financial security, and I really enjoyed their set when I saw them a few years back, because Steve was so amazing. I'm not really into what Deep Purple is all about, as far as the songs go. I do think that they sound much better with Steve than other players.

I would prefer to get more stuff from The Steve Morse Band or the Dregs, but I don't think either of those things are plausible in this day and age, so I'm happy for him to get the work.
