Sounds good man. I actually like how you drop the band mix in and out, so we can hear the comparison.
While I do love Steve Steven's playing and guitar tones, I actually prefer your guitar tone to his. It has more "chug" to it, even if there's tiny bit of "modern" mud there (I'm being very picky with this, so don't mind me or go searching for that elusive mud! It could be my computer speakers for all I know).
Lately I've felt like Steve's tone was the result of a very very "scratchy", harsh & bright guitar sound without much bass, hollowed out by all the effects processing (despite the wet/dry/wet efforts to maintain the core sound somewhat), but being recorded incredibly well so it sounds clear. If that makes sense?
Blue Highway is a good example of what I mean. But I do really like that song, so it's not like I hate it or anything. It's just an observation.
I just think that if the same equipment was recorded unprofessionally, then it wouldn't sound very good at all.
The rough tracks on the later release of Rebel Yell, definitely reveal that harsh & over-processed sound. Quite frankly it sounds incredibly hollow and digitally processed. But the songs are cool!
