still lucky on ebay now and then... Mark III for $550. Mod?

Just so happen to do a random "Mesa boogie" ebay search and saw a newly listed mark III long head for only 550 shipped! Ugly and beat up, hince the price. no prob by me
I paid thursday night, and it was on my doorstep monday morning. dude paid over a $100 to ship it
I had to shop vac out the legions of dead bugs from inside the chassis, and carefully saw out the dead reverb pan from the cabinet. The tnuts shredded through the wood, and the screws were rusted in place.
Once i got that, and the old creaky howard fan out, i popped er back in, and this thing kills!!

I keep reading about this c30 mod, and c27 mod. Are these worth doing? they seem pretty simple. which cap is the "presence cap", so i can made sure of the value. afaik, this is the III+ mod, correct?

What stripe is it? I don't hink the + mod is simple. Mike B can tell you. He did the ++ mod on mine and it wasn't simple. I had an early black dot with the 105 and it killed.

Wow great deal. I think the Mark stripes are all pretty similar to each other, unlike what you may read. I had a purple stripe, which is the least desirable according to the net. Sounded pretty nice. Then, I found a Red stripe which is the best according to the net. 600. Bought, and after a day of A/B ing them the purple wiped the floor with the Red. It wasn't even close. Swapped tubes in the Red and I couldn't get it to do what the purple could. Bump the mids in the purple and it copped the red all day. Go figure.

Nice score! Yeah, the blue stripes are the most pissed off of all the Mark III Revisions! I’m pretty competent with a soldering iron, but I always send my Marks in to have Mike mod them. The guy is awesome, and I’m concerned how much longer he will work there.

I'll only send it to mike if i can't do it myself, or figure stuff out with his help. no since in spending 200 round trip to cali for routine stuff on a common amp. He is so helpful and fun to speak with over the phone, if i need a pointer. Gunna order the parts from them for a recap at some point.
Hes worked on at least 6 amps for me over the years though...great dude.
