STOMPS - pedalboard or rack 'em...?? Come on in

The concept is to include the 4 loop VoodooLab pedal switcher.

Guitar first:
Mk.4:23 Pro
Loop: contains two types of compressors, 1 dirt/fuzz
WAH
Loop: contains 4 types of dirt/OD
Loop: contains Phaser and Flanger
Loop: Chorus and reverb
Single out to:
Eventide Pitchfactor (which has a VPJr going beside the WAH above)
Double outs (stereo) to Lehle S-Go-S
From the Lehle into 1 x Hagen, 1 x 20thA-XTC
Midi upfront deals with the Hagen and in the loop of the Hagen, the Eventide TimeFactor stereo out to either the Hagen only or both amps
Midi also switches channels on the Hagen
Footswitch of the XTC takes care of channel switching, there's a Hardwire Reverb in this amps parallel loop

That's it. What do I need up front? I NEED my Wah, VPJr, PitchFactor, and clean boost (optional). Everything else can be shoved in the back. I need control of my TF via MIDI, everything else is set and go - on/off when needed.

There it is cats. AND, I sometimes ONLY use one amp - sometimes both. This is my special blend and I am sticking to it... Needless to say, I'm very f*ckin' pleased with what I get out of using both these amps at once.

Cheers Folks,
Mo

15 pedals is a lot of tap dancing and a lot of real estate on stage for a board that large. I would rack it.

I'd cut the pedals down to 12. Use the RJM fx gizmo (12 loops). Use a Rack wah. Use a Soundcraft Volcano for volume (midi control). I'd rack this with the Lehle. Probably add a mixer for parallel (optional). You could use MIDI to switch channels on the Bogner with the Medusa cable or Axess CFX4.

Midi control on the floor with 2 expression pedals (Wah, Volume). You'd have only the midi cable to run up front. No long cable runs. You could set up the MIDI controller for either patches, virtual pedal board, or combo of those. Quick, easy, very neat setup.

I've actually been doing the rack pedal thing since the GCX first came out...so long ago I can't even remember.

I've got some pedals before the amp and some in the loop along with my trusty Alesis Quadraverb for all my delays only...I know don't laugh. Once you get your head wrapped around the routing it it's actually pretty easy. The main thing is just deciding if that's what you want to do and go for it. I would recommend someone wiring it for you in terms of the actual cable lengths and placement of the cables etc... unless you can do that yourself. Plenty of good examples from Friedman, Bradshaw how neat it can be...and cable placement which is important to help cut down on noise. Especially if your like me and do not use a gate.

I started with a 12 space, down to a 10, down to a 8 and now I'm down to a 6...pretty much where I've been the last 10 years. In fact if it weren't for the antiquated Alesis that I can't seem to shake I could get it down to a 4 space.

I have 5 pedals on my board / 6 pedals plus power supply in the rack. On board I have a Midi Switcher, Tuner, Wah, wireless and buffer and only 2 cables from board to rack Midi cable and one guitar line. Switcher is phantom powered, the rest are powered by the Sanyo power supply. So still only 2 cables in the front unless I don't use the wireless. Before the Sanyo on the board...I just used batteries. So I wouldn't have to unplug the pedals to save the batterieswhen not in use I just took a daisy chain and plugged it in the pedal adapter slots. Worked great. Preserved battery life and the need to unplug the pedals all the time. Helped with any ground loop issues as well. So far so good with the Sanyo.

So...all in all. Amp head, cab, rack and pedalboard. That's pretty streamlined. I'm actually debating going the Musicomlab switcher route to downsize even further...however I'll still have at least a 2 space rack with Furman (a must IMO) and probably the Alesis...so I would still be left the same lineup of Amp, cab, rack and board.

Reza's pic is a great example of what you can do...small, portable and alot of flexibility.

I've gotta map this shit out from scratch again... It's obviously not a one-shot wonder to fix it. I'll let you gents know which direction I'm taking...

Peace,
Mo

man that sucks :D when you come in looking for advice and a way to settle on an idea and pick one side, and you end up going back to the drawing board, and not to make changes but to SCRAP the whole thing off and start again hahaha

it'll be worth it Mo, keep at it :)

Aw no man, this ain't a bad thing...

I think I really need to go through the army of FX and decide on what I really want and really use. THAT BEING SAID the choice stomps I have are there because of the fact that they offer me exactly what I want, and even if I don't use them a lot, the few times I do need them, I rely on what they offer. So ya, my 'drawing board' is probably more a re-engineering of up-front versus racked versus looped.

Peace,
Mo

I have mine in the rack and control em via midi, except for a wah. In your case I'd throw the stuff you absolutely need in the rack and program it up. Keep a couple of the others you don't use as much up front on the board for when you decide to go freestyling.

Good luck!
