I love straight cabs for the low end response, which seems to be a bit better than the slants, but I usually prefer slant cabs on stage, because of the better dispersion. I like to play with a 4x12 on the side of the stage next to me, and I can hear the slants better and don't send the "beam o' death" right at the singer in the middle of the stage. Back in my younger days, when I was playing out a lot in clubs, using Marshall 100W heads, I would put a straight cab on bottom with a slant cab on top, but turned sideways. It looked cool and dispersed well.
So I think the answer to the OP is: buy one of each.
