I would like to get some feedback from you guys. If you were getting a 4x12, would you choose a straight cab or a slant cab?

And why?

Thanks, I appreciate your input.

Slant. Looks cooler. Don't believe the guy in the previous post. :)

Straight looks cooler and cleaner. Believe the guy in the second post, not the third.

Two slants for the wet cabs with a straight dry cab in the middle running W/D/W. That looks the coolest of all!

Gig wise I like slants, can hear myself better. More perceived low end out of straight though. I have a mix of both.

lol. ^^^^ has an amp company link in his signature. doesnt sell any slant cabs. Fail.

Ouch! :D

...but it doesn't mean I don't have them, and all slant, of course, including my favorite old Marshall slant:

Teasing you buddy, all cabs are awesome.
I play slants at rehearsal because that's what backline is provided, but for my money the straight cab looks more boss.

I know, I'm just messing around, too. :) I love straight cabs for the low end response, which seems to be a bit better than the slants, but I usually prefer slant cabs on stage, because of the better dispersion. I like to play with a 4x12 on the side of the stage next to me, and I can hear the slants better and don't send the "beam o' death" right at the singer in the middle of the stage. Back in my younger days, when I was playing out a lot in clubs, using Marshall 100W heads, I would put a straight cab on bottom with a slant cab on top, but turned sideways. It looked cool and dispersed well.

So I think the answer to the OP is: buy one of each.

Weber Beam Blockers!!

Best thing I have used in decades. no more beam. sound is dispersed and I can turn up a bit more and NO one minds :)

I've heard good things about those, I'll have to look into them.

I prefer the tone bra over the beam blockers.

Get a Mesa Straight Slant cab. Best of both worlds. I don't really notice any sound difference, just like the way it looks.

Generally I think I prefer slant cabs. The types of venues I'm usually playing space is a premium and the angle projects the sound up a little and helps me hear myself ever so slightly better.

Straight. This was last night's gig rig. Sounded awesome.

I prefer how the top speakers in my Marshall 1960A slanted cab sound under the mic, so I vote slant. :D

I like slant cabs. IME they project the sound more evenly. What I hear is more like what the rest of the room hears, so it's more reliable to dial in. I always think a straight cab sounds great until I step away from it and suddenly is sounds different.

These sound very different from the straight cabinets. Not that it is a bad thing.

Straight. Looks better, the sound is more punchy and warmer, better highs, more lows. No contest. Most records are done with straight cabs.

I love the plastic covers on the amps...looks like my great aunt's living room furniture...
