Hate locking straps. I use over-sized strap buttons and never have a problem. These go on all of my guitars. Never had a strap come off.

All-parts $6.50

Same here. I've just about got rid of all my strap locks. Hate em.
Oversized buttons for me.
I also use these killer straps now that have a little slider button on the piece that connects to the guitar. Things are awesome. Can't think of the name????
No more locks for me. Unnecessary.

not when you've almost dropped a $1,000+ guitar on a concrete floor :aww:

strap locks for me or nothing

Only problem with the Dimarzio strap locks is the plastic pieces which can scratch a bit and are a bit fragile. But then you can get the nicer looking metal ones... and get more scratching. I stepped on mine and broke the plastic clip, which means trouble in tight situations and figured perhaps a metal piece would last longer. Then I realized the risk of scratching is much greater. So still no golden product.
But otherwise the Dimarzio ones are very reliable and easy to use/install.

The DiMarzio ones dig into my shoulder, and the seatbelt material slides around too much for me. I haven't tried the cordura ones though.

schaller. They do take regular maintainance but ive never had a problem

I have been using one of these since January, Works pretty good.
It wraps around the strap and fastens with velcro the entire length of it.
I picked mine up from sam ash for $9

Been there. Done it. But, not with oversized buttons and the strap I mentioned. It's impossible. And, they're much faster AND safer than locks.

I use Schaller, but I don't think they're ideal.

1. The nuts come lose every other month - Loctite them and they'll never come loose again.
2. The screws holding the strap pin work themselves out every oter 6 months - Put a small amount of grease in the pocket of the thing to eliminate the friction on the pin.
3. It's a pain to get the huge thing into the hole on some leather straps - Man up.

Still wondering if anyone's gotta invent something better.

Correct. Well done.

Seems like a lot of maintenance when you could just use the over-sized buttons.

Yeah, who has an extra 5 minutes to spare these days just to make sure your guitar is secure? :poke:

Schallers for me...I've had Dunlops fail as both a user and music store manager (angry customers). I also had a Dimarzio clip lock fail although that seems to be a rare occurance...I still use them on a few guitars.

 I have had the nut come loose on the schallers before.
I guess auto locktite would be the cure for that ?
I've got about 5-6 sets of Schallers on various straps, but my first set did something scary: It wasn't the nut which screws down the lock to the strap that came off - it was the little knob that you pull to release the strap lock that unscrewed and came off. I remember I just happened to look down at the floor and noticed that there was a spring and some other piece laying there. "Hmmm ... I wonder where these came from?" ... I figured it out about 10 seconds later   (luckily without any casualties!). I threaded the knob back on with some Lock-Tite ... but in the back of my mind I always fear that happening again to ALL of my other Schallers :scared: .

My response to some good observations:

1. The nuts come lose every other month
+1 ... +/- 1 month (YMMV)

2. The screws holding the strap pin work themselves out every other 6 months
+1 ... +/- 5 months (YMMV)

You really need to have the strap holes widened ever so slightly with a leather punch (I believe 3/8" is the correct size) in order for the Schaller locks to sit properly. I had all my straps done at a local guitar shop (I bought a leather punch set, but they couldn't handle the job). This will make all the available thread visible and usable, and will prevent the strap ends from "cupping" around the lock when you tighten them down.

And while they may be a more secure alternative (?), I never liked how much the Dunlops protrude . . .

lol... I like Schallers and have used them faithfully for many many years. But yeah... I find myself using a little glue on the nut and a dab of epoxy in the mounting screw holes. These measures make the Schallers unstoppable. I can see how this would not be a viable option for someone with the intent of someday selling a given guitar.

edit: yeah, I have had the little release button come off too. I glue that shit in also. I prefer slight modification with a couple drops of glue to maintenance. I mean, do the gule once at the time of installation, and you're done. Forever. Rock. Solid.

I've used the Dunlop Strap Locks on all of my guitars for the past 20 years. Never had an issue. They do need to be cleaned about once a year to function at their best tough.

Based on this thread Just got over-sized buttons. I hope y'all are right

Dunlop Dual Design Strap locks... I have used these for Years and never ever will the screw loosen....
They look the best and work the best...

Hands down!
