strat guys...multiple pick guard configs?

k..been talkin' back and forth with vrad...recently put a dimarzio injector in my strat...I'm still trying it out as it were but I see myself keeping it..it actually handles high gain pretty well, even when you boost the snot out of it...

but there's been another config that I've recently been wanting to try..I don't want to buy another guitar, and I would kinda like to keep my strat in a strat config without too much trouble...

vlad suggested just making another pick guard to swap out whenever the hell I wanted a change of pace..

anybody around here do that? have a pickguard or two lying around, fully built with different pickups or types or whatever, just to swap in an out of a strat that you play often?

the idea is starting to sound like a pretty good one..just wondering how common it is (or isn't)

I would need a new pickguard anyway since it won't be the SSS configuration..the pickup (obviously)..and the switches/pots won't cost too much..and hell, if I like it so much more than what I have now I could always just sell what's currently in there..or keep it around for when I feel like a more traditional strat setup..

and I'm rambling..and it's late...

I dont do this since I have my strat for its stock single coil tones, But if I wanted to do multiple pickup configs, I would do exactly what you are saying...grab another pickguard and wire it up. That way you can switch between the 2 easily and quickly, and wont have to mess with pickup heights or anything. You can drop it in and go and it is ready for you. You would just need to connect and disconnect the output jack and ground wire.
 
nothing wrong with having more options ! yep...easy and quick to change out the pickguard and solder a couple of wires
 
I found the best configuration for my custom shop strat. I still have the stock pick guard all wired, and just built a new one.
I did the new one H/S/S with a Suhr Aldrich, RWRP FL, FL with 2 push pulls on the tone knobs for series, splitting and parallel.
It is a literal swiss army knife of tones right at your finger tips.
I get all the bone stock strat tones, then tele tones, then high output and everything in between.
Lolzgreg was at the studio last week and was quite impressed with the dozens of sounds it can do.
 
I have a Jeff Beck strat with 2 guards. Stock lace sensors on original guard and JB bridge with van zandt vintage+ singles on a tortise guard. Hot and ground are hooked up to cannon plug pins for no soldering quick changes. Go back and forth all the time on it.
 
I've done it. Install quick connectors so you don't have to mess around with soldering when you swap it out. :thumbsup:

I do this with my Warmoth mahogany partsocaster. I have been building complete guards as money permits instead of trying to change individual pickups for a while now. 1)A traditional strat arrangement with Dimarzio Area61/58/58 2) Breed bridge / Cruiser neck 3) Duncan 59b / SSL1 middle / PGn. My stable is very humbucker heavy so the strat guard with the area pickups is usually in the guitar
 
I have three "Strats" that I do that with...an Anderson Hollow Classic (stock SSS, bought an additional HSH), a Warmoth Strat (SSS and HS pickguards), and another Strat mutt (HH, HSH from the Anderson).
I tend to equip them based on my gig(s) at the time...usually either hard rock/metal or blues/funk.
 
that would be awesome if it could be set up for a quick connect... though I assume addictive to add more to the arsenal

I have at least 4 strat pickguard configs that use. I used to spend hours soldering boat loads of pickups until I realized it wasnt efficient way of doing things. Then again, I own over 8 strats so I have legitimate reasons to my tonal madness.

Is that something similar to what Tyler is doing with the Studio Elite ( minus the Pre-Amp ) :confused: ?

I'm considering building a parts-caster and I'd love to see a wiring diagram if you've got one !

I don't bother with quick connectors. It's like a 2 minute solder job...it's probably not necessary but I feel better about doing it that way.
 
Well, I usually would not have done multiple pickup configurations as I have the strat for the stock single coil tones. But I feel this method will be helpful in certain conditions. And then I can follow your method of getting a pick guard and wire it so as to shift between the two with ease.
