Only one of Gilmour's guitars uses the EMG (the red strat, I think). The black strat runs Seymour Duncans.

Something interesting, if you watch any of DG's latest live shows (Gdansk, London) you'll see him play strats, tele, Gretsch, even lap steel. They all sound like DG.

Two similar guitars plugged into the same rig played by the same human sound similar? Shocker!
I know...it should be obvious.

My point being that through a wide variety of pickups, strat/tele/TV Jones, his tones were the same. He could probably pick up a brand new MIM strat and sound like himself. The average human being is probably chasing ghosts buying his sig pickups.

Yeah I'm not going to pretend that if I buy brand X pickup it'll make me sound just like Guitar Hero Y. I just want something a little different than stock, and I think this particular guitar has a lot of the Gilmour vibe already. Would make sense to grab some pickups that are known for that signature sound to match. A lot of my sound/playing has been leaning that direction lately.

I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade, I love buying new stuff as much as anyone. In that case I'd go for his sig EMG. Even if you don't cop his tone, those are really solid pickups, and quiet.

i had the DG pickguard in a strat of mine awhiles back. it sounds great thru a complex rig, with lots of effects and etc, but lost some mojo when plugged directly into an amp. they sounded amazing through a fender cybertwin as well. possibly some of the best tones i ever recorded was with that combo
