Just change the pups and you're good to go  It's not like a Strat is any much different than say a ESP, Alder Body, Maple Neck :D Just change to a higher output bridge pickup and it can do metal, just might not "look metal" maybe just shave down your headstock to something pointy and stab people with it

Kirk Hamster played a Strat in "I Disappear" and that thing was like aquamarine green or something :D

No can do, the body isn't pointy enough. The only way it is gonna get "Uber Metal" is if while you are playing it you are in constant danger of being impaled.

Maybe you can screw spikes to the back of the fretboard as well as the body, then you can spin the guitar around your neck and hope you don't die

Or, imbed a revolver and play the ultimate metal game, Russian Roulette.

I've tried it, but I just couldn't hide that "jangly, springy" Strat tone. It sounds good at low volume levels for modern metal, but goes south pretty past at high volume levels. Maybe a non trem hardtail would yield better results.
I put a full sized JB in my HWY One Strat's bridge and it had incredilbly piercing highs and an overall thin tone. Might have more success with a SD Distortion or EMG 85 in the bridge to thicken up the tone.

Have you seen those backwards Strats? Where they mount the neck to the bottom of the body   I would love to see someone play that at a Metal concert

Yeah, the JB can sound kinda thin in alder guitars for modern stuff. The Custom sounds much thicker and more "metal" to me for heavier tones.

I run a JB in the bridge of one of my strats and I don't find it bright and piercing or thin for that matter. Its very thick in the mids, but not piercing. It works well for me, nails that classic metal sound with my marshall 2553.

None of the Maiden guitarists use single coils in the bridge though. I love Strats with a full size humbucker or something like a JB Jr in the bridge.

Janick used to use SD quarter pounders.

I beg to differ. He has JB Jr's in the bridge and neck of both his main Strats and what looks to be a stock single in the middle.

"Gers is a long time proponent of the Fender Stratocaster. His Stratocasters are typically black or white with rosewood fingerboards. He uses Seymour Duncan JB Jr.(currently) or Hot Rails (early 1990s) pickups. Janick's favourite guitar over the years has been a black Fender Stratocaster, equipped with JB Jr. pickups. This guitar was apparently a gift from Ian Gillan. Janick uses 4 Fender Stratocasters and also a Gibson Chet Atkins semi-acoustic model for songs such as Dance of Death."

My mexi strat has an EMG-81 in the bridge. EMG single coil somthinerother in the middle and can achieve some nasty old school Celtic Frostish tones.

All you need is a Napalm Death sticker on it and...walah' METAL STRAT

I've never seen him play that guitar before. That's gotta be ancient. He's been using that black Strat he got from Ian Gillan for pretty much the entire time he's been in Maiden.

EDIT: That might be from when he was in Bruce's solo band back in 1990.

Exactly. They do metal really well. How can they not? Plug it in, and start riffing away.
