what do you use and/or like?

was thinking i'd go with a 56 for the low E, but then i saw a set they're claiming speacial made for Drop C with a 60.

would 60 be too much string?

I find a 60~ to work nicely on a longer scale guitar.. In my experience scale length plays a factor in how well various string gauges perform in lower tunings. For C I wouldn't go any thicker but you could probably go with a lower gauge if you like lots of play.

I use D'Addario 12-60 for drop B, and I use 10-52 D'Addario for drop C# so I might just try to stick with 10-52. 60 is really heavy for Drop C IMO which is really not all that low, but you'll just have to try some stuff out man

52-54 are better choice for a low c imo

thicker strings do not sound good for hi gain

Depends on many variables...on my LP 10-60 sounds perfect in drop C hi gain, other guitars I go 10-52

I haven't gotten any 10-60's on my guitars right now, But I am wanting to get some for my explorer fro Drop Bb, and I have 12-52 for D and 10-46 for E. I just got a pack of DR DDT strings that are 10-46, and I just don't understand how those could be used for anything lower than E

It depends a lot on the guitar, as well as big strings and string tension. Anyway, I used to keep both of my Jim Root Tele's tuned to Drop B and Drop A#. I met Jim when they were on tour in Dubai and asked what he used, and it was 58-38-28-18-15-11 in all his guitars. But, a 56 will get you there for Drop C.

haha damn i use super light strings then. i tune my guitars to drop c with 10/48's i think it is and i go to drop c# with 9/46's. i cant help it ... i much prefer that stuff to be sloppy and loose rather than nice and tight

I tried a 70 for my drop B guitar, but only did that for one set and moved for a 60 and have been playing that since.

I use the 10-60 (what used to be Zakk Wylde) boomers for drop C on all 3 of my guitars. A 24" Squire Super Sonic, a 24.75" Fender Cyclone and a 25.5 Jackson. Even if I tune the C back up to D, I still like them best. High gain or any gain.

I tune to drop C and prefer 11-54 for the low E. I found the 54 to keep the low string feeling balanced with the rest of the set.

another vote for 54's. the heavier guages sound too dark for my ears. i tune to a# standard with a set of 54's on an lp, and jackson sl2h with great results.
